Fezzari La Sal Peak | Behind the Bike with the Product Team

Спорт

With the success of the original La Sal Peak, launched in 2018, having won multiple awards, including ‘Bike of the Year’, Fezzari was adamant to build upon the successes of its predecessor and make it even better through new innovations. The all-new La Sal Peak is just that; all new, with only the name carrying over from the previous generation.

Fezzari La Sal Peak | Official Launch: • Fezzari La Sal Peak | ...
HIGHLIGHTS
- Increased travel to 170mm.
- New suspension kinematics for better pedaling characteristics, downhill capabilities, and a wider shock tuning range.

- 170mm &180mm single crown fork compatible. Dual crown fork compatible up to 203mm.
- New carbon design and layup process for extra strength, stiffness and weight savings
- Internal tube construction for easy cable routing.
- Complete builds with top tier suspension starting at $3999.
The goal with redesigning of the La Sal Peak was to offer more travel, lower standover height, improve suspension kinematics to offer more rear shock tuning capabilities, and update the geometry to create a bike that can excel at the biggest enduro races and brings the biggest smiles on your weekend backcountry adventure.
Suspension Design - The New La Sal Peak utilizes Fezzari’s tried and true Tetra-link suspension layout. The rear travel has been increased to 170mm, pushing the bike further into the enduro category. The leverage ratio of the bike has been lowered slightly, but still remains progressive. This change lowers the rear shock spring rate by roughly 20% which allows a better tuning range, especially for coil shocks, and gives riders a more consistent feel across sag, mid-stroke and bottom out.
Geometry update - One other advantage to the updated suspension layout was Fezzari’s ability to lower the standover height nearly 2 inches. There is more room to maneuver on the bike with the lower top tube. The new La Sal Peak also gained a roomier feel with a few millimeters added to the reach on each size. The head tube angle is slackened to 64 degrees (with a 170mm fork) and the chainstays grow by 2mm for a short and snappy feel at 437mm.
When Fezzari introduced the original La Sal Peak in 2018, they were the first major brand with a mass produced bike that featured the now common steep seat tube angles. The common-but at the time trend setting-steep seat tube angle (78 degrees) was groundbreaking. Steep seat tube angles have become common across the industry. Fezzari is again refining the La Sal’s on-bike feel, but this time looking at it from each rider’s size perspective. The effective seat tube angle-or what you actually feel on the bike-is critical to a bike’s pedaling performance. Instead of picking an arbitrary saddle height or one that makes the numbers look good, Fezzari, with data from its 23-point custom setup, is using actual saddle heights from actual riders to offer a true 77.5 degree effective seat tube angle on all sizes. This is done by changing the actual seat tube angle on every size. A 5’3’’ rider will have a saddle much lower than the 6’5’’ rider. If the actual seat tube angle is the same across all frame sizes, that 5’3’’ may be riding an effective seat tube angle of 80 degrees, where the rider that is 6’5’’ could be at 75 degrees. Changing the actual seat tube angle on all sizes to achieve an effective seat tube angle of 77.5 degrees for all sizes gives a more consistent ride across all sizes.
The Fezzari Difference - Each Fezzari bike comes with a 23-point custom setup. After receiving a few measurements from the rider, each component is sized to that rider: stem length, bar width, dropper post travel length, etc. If the rider knows exactly how they’d like their bike setup, they can request a specific stem length, bar width, frame size, etc.l. The bike is then built specifically for each rider. The drivetrain and brakes are tuned and test ridden. The suspension is set to a baseline starting point for the rider’s weight and riding style. The bike is test ridden indoors to be sure all the parts are functioning like they should. The bike is then packaged and shipped directly to the rider’s door, where after just a few minutes of assembly, it is ready to ride.

Great customer service, they really do put their money where their mouth is. I purchased the original la sal peak but had to return it due to the high standover and seat tube. It was an excellent build and when I returned it; I had zero issues. It looks like they fixed everything on version 2.0. I know a lot more now and would consider them again.

The ability to customize your order is oversold in this video and some of the other write ups I've seen. It may normally be better prior to Covid and the supply chain shortage; but currently you can expect big hassles and delays if you want to customize the spec on your bike outside of stock. I wanted to run 27+ wheels and was forced to stick with 29'ers if I wanted to get a bike this summer. I also found I couldn't simply pay for the difference between the SRAM NX drivetrain and the GX model. In the end I had to upgrade from the Comp build to the Elite to get more of what I wanted with compromise.
