We Don't Go Easy On It - $3,499 Fezzari Delano Peak 29er Trail Bike Test

Спорт

Vital MTB tester, Greg Montgomery, thrashed Fezzari's new 29er trail bike for over a month at bike parks, on local trails and during epic shuttle laps across Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. This $3,499 mountain bike from the Salt Lake City brand handled it all. We do wish for 200mm brake rotors, and we had some issues with the stock WTB wheels. Ultimately we switched to Stan's Flow wheels, a $300 upgrade fee, and never had any issues after that.

    I tried DVO suspension 4 years ago and was amazed on how smooth it felt back then. Obviously tons of R&D has been done since then and I would imagine that it’s even better now. This is a great review, especially the rider perspective!

    Brilliant review - I'm mostly surprised that the elusive dream bike frame (travel, geometry, f/r center lengths) is also coming from a brand that does value, my other primary goal... now to see if they'll do a crazy build (Zeb/TopazT3/Saint Brakes/GX Eagle)

    SLX build, but not SLX brakes? Those look like MT-420s. I have SLX brakes on my bike with a 203mm XT rotor up front and 180mm XT rotor out back and they are incredibly good. I tried those MT-420s on an Ibis demo yesterday, they were serviceable and didn't lose any modulation when hot, but I would definitely transfer my SLX over for more power, better heat dissipation and better feel. Still a hell of a deal for carbon frame and DVO suspension, though I would probably happily take Deore drivetrain to get SLX brakes on the build.

    I'm a big fan of feeling "In the bike" vs "on the bike". With the La Sal you mentioned feeling a little but too high on the bike. How does the Delano comparo?🤙

  • @jeffjacksonmtb

    @jeffjacksonmtb

    3 жыл бұрын

    Here's my experience with the the La Sal Peak: The steep 78° seat tube angle and slack 65° head tube angle push the seat and bars closer to each other resulting in a shortish 445mm reach on the medium. This makes the area where the rider sits feel a bit cramped front to back. Couple that with the tall 790mm standover height and I felt like I was being pushed up above the bike. After I rode the La Sal Peak at the Sedona Mountain Bike Festival for a few hours, I came back with three wishes... a longer reach, slacker seat tube angle, and a shorter standover height. The Delano Peak granted all three of my wishes with a 755mm reach, a slightly slacker 77.5° seat tube angle, while keeping the slack 65° head tube angle. The standover height is the BIG difference at 741mm, so instead of feeling like you are on top of the bike, you feel like you are "in the bike". The La Sal Peak is an awesome trail bomber. I absolutely loved riding it, but I recommend going up a size or going with the Delano Peak if you have a longer torso and shorter legs like I do. Hope that helps!

    Why? It's a full carbon bike for less than most bike companies charge for their aluminum version. The Ripmo AF is 500 more for the same suspension components in aluminum. I don't necessarily believe carbon is the superior material but it does have benefits over aluminum.

    I still think if you walked into Ibis headquarters and asked them if they had anything new that might fit a particular characteristic, three weeks before a new bike is publicly launched, and they said NO NOTHING you’re going to feel you were lied to. The bike was already privately released well in advance and in peoples hands. I feel Fezarri lied to me and for that they’re losing an existing customer for life. Someone that consistently tried to spread the brand among local riders and friends. These days all I have to say to a lot of people who ask or are shopping is “avoid completely”. The faults of my La Sal Peak combined with that crappy customer service have pushed me too far. Thanks Fezarri!
