It is a bagpipe that was common in the Middle Ages. They weren't just used by the Scots and Irish and they come in different designs. The singer also builds them himself.

They're a folk metal band founded by people who thought other folk metal bands took themselves too seriously. :P I believe all of their original songs are in German, but they also do a lot of covers, most of those are in English. The band members have 'band names' and real names, making talking about them a little tricky. The band usually looks like that, as if they just got back from storming the castle, and they're ready to party. Hauptmann Feuerschwanz is always wearing that chain mail when performing.

Than ray! Yes it is a Doedelzak (German version of the bagpipe). Johanna, the violin player also plays the Hurdy Gurdy, and I think that is what you heard when you thought it's a keyboard. And yet, You Pronounced Hauptman correct. And now you know why I have been requesting this band from day 1 ...

They are using bagpipes (Ben is using a modified one) and hurdy gurdies, violines, sometimes even a harp or a Jew's harp (in German "Maultrommel" - I had to google the English translation for it) besides the "normal" metal instruments like E-guitar, E-Bass and Drums) - if you want have a look at their cover from "Warriors Of The World" - there you can see some of their instruments and also listen to a lot more famous German singers and the incredible Melissa Bonny. Melissa later one teamed with Hans Platz (Feuerschwanz guitarist), Jenny Diehl (also Feuerschwanz - she plays the harp) and Morten Lowe Sorensen (Drummer from Amaranthe and Melissas husband) in the band "The Dark Side Of The Moon" - if you want, have a look at their work also (maybe "Legends Never Die" - but all of their stuff is great). Not to forget "Ad Infinitum" - the other Melissa Bonny project ... and ... well ... "Bing" from Feuerschwanz is even more funny. Anyhow - the whole "German" metal-medival-scene is one very big rabbit hole. The vocalists are "Hauptmann" and "Benjamin Metzner" (Prinz - who has also a band named D'Artagnan - needles to say ... have a look at their work ;) ) Ah - not to forget - they are great live!

Every member is World-Class at what they do and that is how and why they don't take themselves as seriously as some other bands. They already did their grinding, they have already grown (and like true professionals, will continue to grow), they are at the top of the heap so why not add FUN back into making music? :)

Krampus is a Christmas folktale from the Alpine Region. A horned figure that scares kids that have misbehaved. Are Feuerschwanz from Bavaria? Most Germans from other regions don’t know much about Krampus.

Krampus is not the best choice for a first impression of Feuerschwanz. Songs like "Knochenkarussel", "Metfest", "Untod im Drachenboot", "Ultima Nocte" or the covers of "Ding" and "Warriors of the world" are much better suited for this.

lol - you're presuming this songs with this lyrics to someone who's not able to understand it? You're a little bit devilish ;) ... But anyhow - almost everything from them is great in some kind. Would agree in having a look at "Bing" for the pure "What?" effect - and after that have a look at the original from Seeed - for the pure "What?" effect. For the "sound" and if you want to have something to sing along "Warriors Of The World" is a great choice (please note: That's a cover from Manowar)

Helloween is great but not Symphonic Metal ... (where is the symphonic orchestration in their music?) If we are talking Symphonic metal: Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Kamelot, Leaves Eyes, Lacuna Coil (but well - it's also more metal lately) ... the newer ones: Beast In Black, Beyond The Black, Delain (refounded), Ad Infinitum, Vision Of Atlantis, Xandria, Blackbriar ... Helloween is Power Metal - something in that direction: Iron Maiden, Powerwolf, (sometimes) Kamelot, Edguy, Manowar ... Additional we have Death Metal with Symphonic influences: Arch Enemy, Parasite Inc., Rage Of Light, Jinjer, In Flames, ... If you like Helloween why not giving the classics a chance? Deep Purple, LED Zeppelin, Metallica, System Of A Dawn ... And ... yes, for "silly fun": Electric Callboy (but I mean THAT as a compliment for them ;) )
