Festive ringing of the bells on the mountaintop at Pisogno
The church in Pisogno is located in the middle of the woods in the mountains and is dedicated to Saint Gotthard, the name of a famous pass on the border between Italy and Switzerland. The stone bell tower has three bells, cast by different members of the Mazzola family over a hundred years. The two original bells date back to 1829, while the largest cracked due to overuse in 1958. The bell concert is in B flat major and the bells are rung twice, shortly after the celebration on Saturday afternoon around sunset.

The three bells are ringing as one of the strongest storms of the season approaches, with lightning and hail falling all over the lake in February, which is a rarity. After taking in so much water, I was hosted at a friend's house, after eating a magnificent pizza. This place is always magnificent.
The medieval chapel was enlarged during the 16th century, after the hill town had grown considerably around its small oratory. The church was completely rebuilt in the 17th century, reaching a considerable size despite the smallness of the village. The church is in a very simple Baroque style, fully conforming to the architectural dictates following the famous Council of Trent. The frescoes in the apse are exceptional, still original by a famous author Caravaggio, considered one of the greatest exponents of Mannerism. Next to the monumental entrance to the church is a steep flight of steps leading up to the ancient castle where the Oratory of the Crucifix stands, the highest point of the village.

Hallo. Eine schöne Kirche. Die Holztreppen zu den Glocken haben auch schon einige jahre auf dem Buckel. Finde ich klasse auch mal bei den Glocken im Turm zu sein während sie läuten. Sowas sieht man auch nicht oft. Tolles Video und einblicke. Danke. Ich wünsche ein schönes Wochenende. Gruss Markus

Lovely church and great climb to the tower - also bell ringing was great 👍👍. I wonder how often these automatic mechanisms are getting broken since they are exposed to elements and it looks like water is dripping over them 😊😊
