Is Scuderia Ferrari prepared to challenge Red Bull and McLaren? The SF-24, which was run at Fiorano during last week's filming day, represents a significant conceptual overhaul compared to the car used in the first six races of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Team principal Frederic Vasseur chose not to follow McLaren's lead by introducing an immediate aerodynamic update like the one that helped Lando Norris secure his first career Grand Prix win with the MCL38. Instead, Vasseur adhered to the development plan set by Italian aerodynamicist Enrico Cardile and his team at the start of the season.
As Ferrari heads into the seventh round of the 2024 F1 season at the Imola Grand Prix, the SF-24 EVO will make its official debut. This aggressive update aims to boost performance significantly. The car has already been tested at Fiorano, focusing on data collection rather than lap times. Both main drivers concentrated on gathering data, which is now under analysis.
The design direction of the SF-24 is not a direct copy of Red Bull's RB20, despite what some media reports suggest. However, Ferrari's evolution has benefited from the expertise of engineers who joined from Milton Keynes before Christmas, bringing insights from Adrian Newey's innovative designs.
These changes are not simple imitations but are the result of extensive wind tunnel studies. The goal was to adapt and integrate these ideas into a car with different aerodynamic characteristics, addressing the shortcomings of the SF-24 and enhancing its performance.

I think they didn’t want to risk messing it up 😂
on another video, the guy said that during this test at Fiorano, Ferrari discovered a problem as they were overheating their tyres. so if that's true, we're back to 2023 then when they won't be able to race and will have to spend the entire race monitoring their tyre deg. i hope that's not true. Ferrari has got to be the worst team with it comes to upgrades. they're so frustrating

the tyres used during the test in fiorano are a 'demo' version, so my hope is that these tyres are very different to the ones are being used in this championship
