    And those games are so realistic too, they really make you feel you are there on the track. I did win a lot on the computer, but back in '94 I went to this two hour Bridgestone racing school and I spent two hours on the real thing. Only problem was the class only cost about $300 and in order to protect their cars we were told "speed is not important, just take the right lines, apex, downshift, bla bla bla.... we were "flying" on the straight at well over 60mph in those Camaros. The fun part was when the instructor was not in my car (he was in the first one, the other three followed) and I was last, so I would slow down, and then hammer it to catch the group. Did about 20 laps altogether, and some 15 years later when I got on the computer game, it felt so familiar, only no one to fuck with me to slow down all the time. I have posted the video from the 8mm that was part of the package

    Laguna Seca is part of the wonderfulness of older race tracks. I remember Fittipaldi down through the corkscrew too many years ago. I think he came second but had pole (CART 1993?)I am old enough to remember Jim Clark at Brands Hatch screaming into Druids fighting for the lead, I forget when, probably 1965, but he won it four years in a row back then. Laguna Seca and Brands Hatch both had a lot of character, with wonderful memories. I know Laguna Seca lost out to Phoenix for the US F1 Grand Prix because it is too remote. A great shame because there are a lot more drivers I would love to see in the corkscrew. One of the best tracks in the world as far as I am concerned.

    My complements, someone finally got the tyres correct, yah slicks! I would very much like to see this Ferrari unleashing all of its horses shod in a set of ultra-soft meats! I always disliked the FIA's (or perhaps Bernie's) decision to mandate grooved tyres during that era, even worse - the rule that required a single set of tyres to last an entire race. So foolish when tyre strategy is a massive component of Formula 1, it forced drivers to be ultra conservative managing wear, and required manufacturers to produce harder compound tyres that could go the entire race distance. How was a reduction in cornering performance and a conservative tyre strategy entertaining for the fans. Question: Did the grooves and the single set of tyres per race rule have to do with an attempt by the FIA to facilitate more passing opportunities? I can't remember anymore.

I know their trying to make the racing closer and create more over taking, but at the end of the day, this isn't nascar, this is formula 1. ***** it's by design. formula one is so expensive to compete in because of all that great technology, and sadly at current time, you know that only 1-4 drivers can win a formula one race before it starts. US motorsports wants to have more competitors in their series.

  • @prophetascending9021

    wags2010 I definitely agree that Formula 1 tends to be stuck in a relentless cycle where it's always the same one or two teams at any given time winning everything. This year it's Mercedes and Ferrari. A few years back it was Red Bull and McClaren. In the 90s it was Williams or Ferrari. So I see your point. But with the inclusion of gimmicks like KERS and to a greater extent DRS, as well as no pit stop for fuel, we have seen F1 improve. Believe me it used to be a dull, predictable procession so it has got better. U.S racing does have a more purist, driver first type of competition which also has merit. Though my comment about the technology on F1 is valid.

    Depends on the track and what is called for.... a NHRA top fuel funny car or dragster would leave the F1 car in the dust... and if you went back to the faster days of Indy cars they were faster in a straight line and could corner as fast and only lost out on the brakes because they were using cast iron rotors.

  • @prophetascending9021

    @prophetascending9021

    5 жыл бұрын

    duck Come on, comparing dragsters with f1 is ridiculous. I could counter by saying the British vehicle which holds the world land speed, Thrust SSC, is faster than any dragster. And believe me, no Indy car has ever been quicker around a circuit than an f1 car. An f1 car from 2006 was lapping about 6 seconds a lap quicker than an Indy car at Watkins Glen. As I explained, f1 cars accelerate quicker, have much better aerodynamics and so corner much faster, they brake quicker, change direction quicker, and over a 50, 60, or 70 lap race they would lap an Indy Car at any conventional circuit.
