Ferrari Daytona & Lamborghini 350GT - Remedying 2 classic Italian V12s | Tyrrell's Classic Workshop

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode, we delve in to a “day in the life” in the workshop. Iain uses some tricks of the trade to recover lost cylinders in two V12's that haven't been fired up in anger for some time. The Lamborghini 350GT is about to be stripped for body restoration and a full service, but first it’s important to assess thoroughly how it drives before the serious work starts, so parts (such as sticking brakes) can be dealt with at the same time. The Ferrari Daytona has already spent time in the workshop but has developed a running fault that requires further investigation.

One video 2 glorious legendary Italian v12s being properly sorted out on the road! This channel is such a blessing for us that will never be able to own these cars or have a man this talented work on our cars. Such a sad state of affairs that many of these cars do sit and just rot under their own weight and not being properly exercised. Thank god for people like Tyrell and Harry that properly cane these great legends now and then to show us how great motoring once was. Wrenching with a Rolex Diver is another example, Rolex was created for the explorer and not the investment banker. Meant to be worn. Thank you Tyrell for letting us into your world.

We have had a Daytona in the family from new (1973). Father-in-law bought it to replace his V12 E Type which kept 'missing' cylinders. We all love it and this year it was passed on to the next generation of the family. It is fabulous to drive, but there's always something to do. Saying that we love it and your video catches the fun, - that lightweight flywheel means it's a really free running engine, but if you bring the clutch in with insufficient throttle, it 'dies' instantly. Could go on about it forever, but you've made me smile alright!!

As a student in 1972 at age 21 I was working a stage at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland. One afternoon I decided to seek out the only Scottish Ferrari dealership at the time which was within 20 minutes drive - in my 1963 Mini, complete with wheel spats and wheel spacers. I found the place... A farm. There at repose behind the stone wall were a Daytona and a Dino, both red. The owner, I’m not sure I ever learned his name, came out and engaged me in conversation, respectfully, in spite of my youth. Having done the walk-around of all three cars he asked me how old I was. I replied truthfully and he replied it was a pity as had I been 23 he’d have offered me to drive the “small” one. None the less he took me out for a spin in the Daytona... When you’ve stepped out of a 9 year old Mini into the world’s supercar it is an experience one will never forget.

Each time I watch a video of yours I realize how little I know about properly maintaining a classic cars. I’ve been incorrectly applying the auto repair technics and methods I learned as a kid in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Now I’m almost afraid to do anymore work on any of my classics without watching your videos. 😁

It’s lovely to watch the quintessential Britishness of Mr. Tyrrell, that understated succinctness that Americans don’t get. I live in Victoria Australia and not once does Mr. Tyrrell say, ‘it’s like,’ followed by a facial expression or sound effect that is supposed to replace language. Some of us still appreciate how sublime the English language can be when properly used. Mr. Tyrrell obviously knows this and has the confident manner of a professional with hard won knowledge in his chosen field. It’s pleasing to watch a master at work. I too came across from Mr. Metcalfe’s channel and thank you for encouraging Mr. Tyrrell to venture into the world of cyberspace. It’s a virtual toy shop for people like me who may never experience the joys of owning such cars. Though I have been blessed with some very nice motorcycles. More of Messers Metcalf and Tyrrell would improve KZread immeasurably. Well done gentlemen.

Fascinating. Priceless historical Ferrari and a badly chosen 25 pence connector takes out half of the engine because someone wanted to cut corners years back. You can’t teach the knowledge Iain has. He’s an Artisan.

The absolute beauty of genuine automotive drive ability troubleshooting skills. You don’t see that anymore in the industry; it’s become more of a parts replacers. It is cool how fuel delivery technology and the air fuel delivery systems at the time allowed you to fine tune the overall performance of an engine. Liked how spark plug test to verify for spark and the strength of the spark jumping the wire. Verified the air mixture by pinpointing which cylinder was at fault with the misfire.

a trick with a simple fouled plug is to pull the wire loose just enough so there is an air gap at the terminal on the plug , then the coil voltage does not get bled off thru the shorted plug, once fired and cleaned by revving a bit, shut down and re attach fully. great two stroke MC trick also. if I owned one of these I'd also have a pre oil system . really a great idea and not too expensive. I used the smaller Moroso accusump on my GT Mustang. engine stores its own oil pressure for a shot before start next start up.

I've loved all the previous vid's, they've all been wonderful but this one was even a little better, my cheeks hurt from grinning like a fool the whole way through, it was great hearing you describe what was happening n why, to see you fix the problems and explain the what n how, then experiencing the Daytona getting a run, that sound, truly beautiful, thanks so much.

I remember doing this to my own cars in the 70's. Tuning carbs and checking for spark. I even had a carb synchronizer for balancing multi carb cars. Most shops won't even work on carbed cars anymore. Tyrell however is a true exotic car whisperer.

If this car wasn’t ludicrously expensive it seems like it would be an awesome weekend/out to dinner car once everything is fully sorted. It seems to drive SO easily! So smooth, smooth steering, smooth clutch operation, perfect GT car.
