The Ferrari 458 Speciale, based on the already excellent 458 Italia, is filled with extra technology that aims to make it into one of the most thrilling supercars that money can buy.
It gets an uprated version of the standard car's 4.5-litre V8 engine, with a staggering 597bhp -- meaning it goes from 0-62mph in just three seconds. The aerodynamics of the Ferrari 458 Speciale have been improved as well, to decrease drag and boost downforce -- just like an F1 car.
Plus, it shed 90kg from the normal car's weight, with over 20kg shaved off of the interior. It's a fantastic setup inside the car, with carbonfibre everywhere -- from the seats to the door trims and dashboard.
The Ferrari 458 was always brilliant, but this Speciale edition is, well, a bit special.
The engine is a thing of joy -- once the revs go over 5,000, it just takes off, and it sounds incredible, too. You can feel the new aero working through fast corners, and it feels glued to the road and incredibly agile.
It shines on the track, but it's actually remarkably good on the road. The ride is a bit firm, and the engine is very noisy, but you can forgive all of that when you get to the right road.
The engine has so much torque and it's so responsive that it's brilliant fun here, too. There's also a slide control system that allows just enough slip before it intervenes to prevent a disaster.
Ultimately this car's aggressive nature is a small price to pay for the extra on-track focus you get. Is it worth £30,000 more than the standard car, though? Well, if you've got the sort of money that will buy one of these cars the question you really need to ask yourself is: do I want to own one of the most thrilling and intoxicating cars in the world?

The Ferrari 458 Speciale's design is state-of-the-ART to me!
If those white flaps in the front bumper are coloured black and the big ass stripe removed in favour of one like on the 430 scuderia than this is one sexy looking car.
It is not a car it is ART !

I don't think Ferrari's over done it with this one; I believe its just right.
You throw and Elise around like that and it just understeers. With some power (most importantly low down) you’ve got options!

In the name of saving weight, the 458 Speciale equipped with single gearbox instead of the dual gearbox found in the regular 458.

Is it really that hard to be excited??! It's like he is reading a script.. And I feel the same way, it's hard for me to find any 458 ugly, my love for 458 is also unconditional
Ugly? This car is more for competition, so the modified exhaust and other additional aerodynamics pieces are build for that. If you like the Italian more than the Speciale than buy the first, I like both even I don't have the money to have one ;-)

Oh thank god someone finally said "Speciale" right. Makes me said no one knows how to actually pronounce it
the key question is whether it will kill you by catching fire as many other Ferraris ( as well as other Italian supercars). Refer to wrecked exotics website just to see what I mean.

Well so far I haven't been impressed by a Ferrari. The Modena understeers, the 355 rattles like a rattle trap while being under powered the Rossa... well it just isn't what the name Ferrari conjured in the minds of those who have never actually driven one. I might just have to try that speciale though. Looks pretty cool. So far my favorite was still my Porsche 911 Turbo. My Corvettes were the best deal though as nothing gives you that kind of performance for the money. But really all of these are completely a waste of time. Get a Flat Top Paramotor with a Dominator paraglider like you see in all my videos and you just won't care about a fancy car anymore. A Prius with time to spend flying will do far more than any Ferrari:).

Every Ferrari that you mentioned was one of the best drivers cars available during their production. Same goes for the 458. No one in their right mind would compare a Corvette to a Ferrari.

TolgaTheDreamer Nope, there a difference, Pagani use it on the hood and rear, this and the Laferrari use it on the underside of the car, to create down force. The way the flaps move and operate is completely different!! And your foretting who really started using active aero......McLaren F1!!!

You would have to repaint the whole car which would cost 50,000 . Ferrari paint expensive

To me, the 458 is beautiful due to it's simplicity, this one is just too much.

the front bumper, rear diffuser, side tail fins and the stripe totally turns me off, if you give it to me for free, I'll sell it off and get a 2011 458 italia with the original bumper and triple-exhaust rear. ugly.
Jeremy Clarkson can not say this car is better looking than the F430 - that nose!! eww!!

I still prefer the looks of the front end of this car better than that of the F430. And if Clarkson were to say it is better looking like he did when he compared the 458 Italia to the F430, he would be correct. The rear end design of the F430 is perhaps the best Ferrari has ever produced. And it looks great from the side view as well. But, overall, I think the 360, 458 Italia and 458 Speciale are better looking cars, in my opinion.

The 458 Speciale (to me) is MUCH better looking than the F430. And it is better-looking than the 458 Italia as well. The 458 is one better looking cars that Ferrari has ever produced. I don't like the front view of the F430 at all. But, I must admit, the rear end looks absolutely beautiful.....But that is usually the case with all Ferrari cars.

ferrari always has one good looking car each generation: GTO, F40, F50 Enzo, F430, 458 and now laferrari. The rest are soul less.

Yes and yes. F40 is the best looking ferrari hands down, ask any ferrari enthusiast or owner, the F50 is nowhere near considered a good looking fezza and 430? thats not even in the list.

everybody has their own opinion. i think the f40 is un proportional and weird. the f50 is a refined version of it.

***** Well I'm a huge Ferrari enthusiast and I have always loved the F50, in fact it was the first supercar that I fell in love with when I was a kid. And the F430 is absolutely gorgeous as well.
