Ferrari 296 GTB - V6 Hybrid Supercar: Road and Track Review | Catchpole on Carfection
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Henry Catchpole reviews the hotly anticipated Ferrari 296 GTB on road and on track!
Stats:
Powered by V6 engine producing max torque of 546 lb-ft
With a hybrid system that has an electric only range of 25km
Weighs 1470kg (dry)
8-speed dual clutch (DCT) from the SF90 but with a mechanical reverse gear
Price: £241,000
The design of the 296 GTB is a clear indication that the Roma was not a one off in bringing back an elegance to Ferrari road cars. It marries the advanced aerodynamic and hybrid drivetrain technology with an aesthetic that harkens back to the 250 LM race car. This hybrid system shows great potential for its usability. Henry reviews the 296 GTB to find out how well it does balances supercar and everyday car.

Beautiful car. In my opinion one of their best looking mid engined cars since the 458. Haven’t really cared for the design language of the past few years. Also great sound for a V6!
The cinematography & editing in this review are simply sublime (especially the opening). If you’d told me this was a VT from The Grand Tour or Top Gear, I wouldn’t have questioned it. Easily the best on KZread.

Carfection videos with Henry Catchpole have raised the bar to an amazing level.
Some of the most spectacular, and well produced car content on YT. Just love the intro to this so much :D
Brilliant video - the production qualities of Carfection are now superb, as is the content. Best looking Ferrari for a long, long time - F355? I hardly dare mention the 328 or 288GTO ! - so much cleaner looking than many new sports cars. I love the compact look with the short overhang at the front (sans messy aero stuff now commonplace), the rear treatment and that lovely roofline. Now, if only Maclaren could get their (fantastic) cars styled by someone other than a 12 year old sci-if fan.
The quality of carfection content has been so good for so long it almost seems unnecessary to mention it but, once again, congrats to the team this video is stunning. The car is very interesting and the design is definitely growing on me. Not that I’m in the market for one but I just can’t get over the haptic buttons on the steering wheel. This is so small but Physically pressing a start button is so satisfying, turning it into a haptic button makes starting your Ferrari seem like starting an app. Of all the haptic buttons it seems to me the most offensive yet I haven’t heard a reviewer specifically mention it. Is it just better in person? Or am I just weird and it’s not something other people care that much about? Edit: just wanted to add that on rewatch, your description of the rear glass as looking through “incredibly clear water” is so simple and spot-on. Perfect example of why Henry is one of the best journalists out there rn.
Incredible cinematography!!!I think it’s the best review on 296!!!Congratulations!!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Excellent. As always, Henry. Also, I liked the conclusion aspect of this film. It gave the rest of the film some more weight, which was appreciated. Awesome.
WONDERFUL way to start a day ! Ferrari are doing incredible designs lately....
Ngl, I'm not the biggest Ferrari fan, but I will admit that this has left me impressed. I can't wait to see how it stacks up in the competition in regards to new designs with V6 engine formats. Also, I don't know what's going on at Ferrari, but I feel like some of the front end designs could use a bit of work. It's definitely not it's best angle. However, this one is definitely better looking than the SF90.
Thanks Henry for such epic review I like ur style bcoz u use simple and basic language so that everyone could understand i just watched autocar mat prior video too I liked his review too but u have ur own class u r doing great job mate cheers love and greetings from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
That intro scene gave me goosebumps. Utterly phenomenal camera work, unbelievably well done.
I think it looks quite good. Only issue I have is I wish they had gone with the quad round taillights instead.
Sounds really good for a V6
I noticed that in all the tests that came out today there was not as much enthusiasm and excitement as in the tests you did for the Maserati mc20 !!!!
The only review worth waiting for. Not some over the top screaming and shouting from Top Gear and not some dull Autocar effort.
Henry is the only non ego-centric car reviewer on this platform. Could listen to him all day. The others are just there to show off and for the likes
Does a 2 inch shorter wheelbase really make that much of a difference? Amazing review as always. That opening cinematic was phenomenal. I'd say easily top 3 you've ever done

Such a emotional and stunning opening, with this brilliant music! Congrats for this job!
I appreciate Henry's thoughtful day-after conclusion. I am not a fan of this car's styling (more Corvette than 250 LM), but am encouraged by the transition to hybrid.
I THINK ITS BLOODY BEAUTIFUL
Brilliant as usual Henry and team! Like others have said previously you’re my go-to when big embargoes lift 👌🏼
the opening cinematics of the video were simply stunning, bravo
Very beautiful car. Sounds surprisingly good considering the emissions standards they are dealing with. I just think Ferrari needs to make a cheaper, lesser-powered, naturally aspirated v6 version of this car without the turbo and hybrid nonsense. Even with 400-500hp, I think people will love the simpler Ferrari. Preferably with a manual, but I will still be happy with the flappy paddles.
I never got on with the styling of the 458 era of cars, so to me this is a cracking return to form. I wonder if that V6 block is related at all to the one in the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The photography in this video was really extraordinary, breathtaking actually. Kudos to everyone involved in making this fine review.
Beauty, Design, Design, Art, Love it. Keep up the good work Henry 👍
Loved the conclusion! I really appreciate the time you took to process and give us your honest feelings... The car is just beautiful. Clean, elegant and sporty. 😍 It's been a while since I liked a new Ferrari this much! The sound has a lot of V12 reminiscences; can't wait to hear a bit of aftermarket magic on this one. Go for the million subscribers! Go!
I am curious to see what kind of power these cars make with upgraded turbos, exhaust, and a tune. Since this is lighter than the SF90 one of these with a combined 925hp or so it will likely be as quick as the SF90 in a straight line and maybe faster around a track with better driving dynamics. Time will tell.
Excellent review as always Henry. Really valued your morning after reflections because they gave clarity and an enhanced perspective!
Great work Henry right up there as one of the best auto reviewers. 👌👏 entertaining and informative always
Seems to sound pretty nice as far as I can tell, I guess it’s not lost out dropping a few cylinders.
First, I've said it before but Carfection is in a different league to the others in the industry. I don't care about numbers, in these reviews I get to know how a car feels, how the steering feels, what it's like to take down a road, the feeling you get in its environment, the vibe it gives off. Hats off once again. Second, wow I love the direction Ferrari has been going with their design. The La Ferrari and 488 looked exciting but this new generation, especially the Roma, bring back the class, the elegance and the style to the brand. I feel like they got caught up trying to be like Lamborghini, all 80's excess and spaceship looks but, for me, Ferrari means Roma, Dino, Daytona and 250 and it's great to see a return to form
Excellent review, as usual. Always look forward to them.
The first minute of this video is better than all 12 minutes of the Top Gear video combined. Carfection raises the bar once again. Bravo.
That's really impressive. I wonder if there are any drive mode/performance combinations locked out.
with the F8 complely missing the mark in term of design, this and the Roma is such a breath of fresh air returning to simple and elegant design.
