A "shop truck" with 5.87s, dual quads and the aerodynamics of a brick. and premium fuel $4+ a gallon.. Perfect... It only costs you 75 cents a mile to drive it, no big deal.

My thoughts exactly. Wife abd I built our 69 the same way, eith scavenged parts from the yard we bought in 05. Just to get the base set, as a starting point. We upgraded to late 90s F 250 sxels and driveline, 7.3 IDI, 6 speed manual. Then we went to Summit and EBC. Ordered up bushings, steering components, and other parts. Not so much for our safety, as we had good braies for what we haul from the factory. But as someone who lost his future to a drunk driving a sketchy old farn rod, and carries his own guilt, the other side of that coin is one I Never want to see. Because I wouldn't wish my own side on anyone. Every vehicle we own, from the bikes to the van that grants me freedom from a wheelchair, the first thing we do is upgrade the tires and brakes. If the steering was good, uprades were held off until the miles add up. I love my wife and daughter. They are my world, joy, and reason for living. Even disabled the only thing that stops me, is Me. But they will never replace the one I lost. A grand to upgrade brakes is nothing compared to the value of your project. $31k compared to $30k. A thousand more dollars may save your, or someone else's life, or family.

You're 85% there... You need to do the front end upgrade and brakes... or did you run out of project budget? also, you did not show a full 6 gear run through. 1st gear is is probably LOW. I was expecting you to row through the gears... If It's that sketchy, then what's the point if you can't use it to it's full potential.

Future content. They did say, put this sketchy thing away, for a while. It's not only budget that can stop or delay a project. F8nding parts, manufacturing delays, shipping issues, and needing to track down a donor car can all lead to production delays. Our shop has a couple that have sat since 2019, due to lack of new, or NOS parts. In our spare time my wife and I fab new ones. So don't worry. That beast will be back.

The 300 fan boys can't accept their holy relic tapped at power levels that a mildly built small block would comfortably live for 200k miles at. It's long obsolete that's why we use other engines now. Why the heck would you even keep the 5.87 rear gear in this truck to begin with? You could easily have swapped out a 4.56 with LSD. You'd still have plenty of grunt, and you wouldn't necessarily need two overdrive gears to drive at highway speeds without turning 3000 RPM.
