I think my comment has been misunderstood. To clarify, I meant that he was/is under-rated by anyone outside F1 (general public & the media). Too much hype about the man-child Hamilton, & his ilk. I think Fernando just suffered so much bad luck with his cars. I am one of his long-time great fans & believe he deserves better recognition.

Ayman Lyoubi possibly, but the cars have a KERS like system in them so you have 500hp aprox. On demand at times.

Ayman Lyoubi Alonso was faster than Lopez. He was leading before he pitted. There was a safety car and so they had to restart. The problem was Fernando had to deal with traffic and had to pull off some spectacular overtakes to get away from traffic. After he cleared all that, it was just a matter of being faster than Lopez. Alonso just retook the lead. Its a little pointless to start fighting for a lead when there was still a couple hours left in the race. This was early on in the race. There was 20 more hours. Why risk it?

AT LEAST TOYOTA IS FASTER THAN MCLAREN-HONDA.

@@juanm.5803 Its really pointless for Lopez to start fighting his team mate this early in the race when they still had the night part to contest. It wouldn't make him a smart driver if he did. The smart way is to do the laps, get the car safely and fight during the dying laps of the race. You do not fight your team mate when there is 20 more hours to go and risk damage and losing time. Also, Alonso was leading before he pitted, then the safety car happened. Alonso had to fight to get back that position. He was just faster than Lopez. Fernando was on average half a second faster than Lopez was. Also if you watch the restart after the safetycar, Lopez was definitely using the traffic to his advantage if keeping Fernando off his tail despite Alonso being faster. But once Fernando was in the clear, it was just a matter of outdriving Lopez.

My respects for Le Mans! but this time is disappointing that Porsche it was out, and Audi does is no longer in lemans, Toyota didn't have competitors, soooo easy win

If they saw the onboard that issued NISMO of the two pilots during their stint would see that it was what happened, but I think it does not matter ...

Jason Moyle Audi stopped and canceled the endurance racing group because of the losses on the diesel scandal. Their partners Team Joest is now partnering with Mazda and is racing on the other endurance racing series Imsa Weathertech DPi category in the USA where Toyota also has a team without Alonso driving though. Nissan is also racing there but not a factory team I guess. Cheating is a bad thing.

That's the difference between an F1 driver and an Endurance driver - Alonso doesn't know how to "slow down, save the car"! He can't drive 90%! Its flat out the whole time!!

When Alo fans think that Is a great overtake. Its clear too many people has seen lemans for first time.

Nobody thinks that's a great overtake. Also, him taking the lead at hour 4 is pretty pointless considering that there's 20 more hours to go. But Alonso did do a couple of really good overtakes to clear traffic that happened before he passed Lopez after the safety car.

gelar27 because Mclaren is genuinely slower and were hidden by the Mercedes engines and aero inputs in the 2000's. Once the Mercedes factory team returned to f1 Mclaren is nowhere....
