Fermentation Suint Method - Teeswater Fleece

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video shows our first adventure with using Suint Fermentation to clean about 10lbs of teeswater fleece. We have done this before with other fleeces, but they were not as dirty as this fleece was. This is a wonderful way to clean large batches of fleece the all-natural way, and it worked really well for us.
We have a full blog write-up on this topic available here: bluebarnfiber.blogspot.com/201...
As always, you can visit us at :

And we offer custom dyed teeswater like what you see in the video, as well as Unicorn / Beyond wool wash, and lots of other fiber goodies for spinners, felters, textile artists, paper makers, soap makers, and more!

I first found your webpage discussing the science of this method, excellent resource! I have become a convert to this scouring method after I lost my cool wrestling with a RomneyxCorridale. My tale may interest you. Not only did this fleece have a lot of suint; the tips were covered in nasty tags that were as hard as nail polish. They made a crisp clicking sound on my picnic table. To get rid of them, I did a bunch of tests with everything from Dawn to ammonia to washing soda. I even tried immersion in boiling water. It was like boiling rocks, and it made the wool brittle. Nothing worked. This is when I found your web page. I put the whole fleece into a giant tote with water for 10 days (60 degree days, so I gave it more time). I kept checking the fleece, and at day 6, the dang tags came off!!! At the end of the soak, the tips were stained yellowish, but it's a roan/brownish/grayish fleece, so it's fine. I did 'cheat'--I used tap water. I live in a Mass. suburb with excellent water, and it was easy for me to find out that there's a lot of chlorine in our water but not much else. So, I let it sit outside for 3 days to let it off-gas, just like I would for a goldfish tank. I had no trouble getting a serious funk going within 36 hours after immersing the fleece.

I'm so glad that it worked for you!! I don't care for the funky smell (obviously) that you get while you're in the middle of doing this method, but the resulting clean fleece with so little effort is really a wonderful thing. It definitely can work when nothing else will!

Unfortunately Vinny Voo (the white one) passed away right after our daughter was born in April of 2019 from SARDS and Hisella passed away in December of 2019 after her poor little dachshund back gave out and left her paralyzed and in a great amount of pain. 💔 We've gotten two other rescue dogs since then and they are wonderful, but we miss our old pets a lot.

Put it in a black container, the sun will heat it, and the process will be faster.
