Fender MonoNeon Jazz V: www.fender.com/en-US/electric...
Hey Everyone! Today we're taking a brief reprieve from mods to bring you one of the most anticipated reviews of 2022, the Fender MonoNeon Signature Jazz Bass V. This bass is very unique with its eye popping finish, painted pickguard, gold hardware, and the fat Firecracker humbuckers paired to Fender's Player Plus 3 band 18v preamp. There's a lot to like about the new Fender MonoNeon Jazz V, but is there enough to justify the $1549 price tag for this Made in Mexico Fender? Let's find out!
This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with SIT Foundation Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(125) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at sitstrings.com/

Three positives: you'll never lose it on stage, no one will ever steal it, you can use it to signal to passing helicopters or spacecraft if you are stuck in a snowdrift coming back from a gig. A high vis vest offers much of the same functionality, though.

As an engineer in Memphis, I can say that I work with a bada** bass player who had a "pre-release" of this bass given to him by Neon, as they go back to when Mono was little. This bass sounds AMAZING. It definitely has a unique sound that is not offensive in the least bit. It hits all the sweet spots you expect a Fender to hit. The stickers and sock are a nice touch. I am proud to see another Memphian doing so well and hope that this line gets some positive spotlight for him! Clean, Mane, it's clean!

I have one of the older Custom Modified satin models. I love the pickups but I changed the wiring to V, B, T. I also installed (for each pickup) a 3 way Series. Parallel. and single coil. Mine is satin black (I have to say that I prefer the black) and I put a white pearl pickguard. I also got a Squire 70s Jazz neck, maple maple with pearl block and binding. A little heavy but when gigging I use a 5" leather strap made out of belt leather so the weight isn't as bad as it might. (4 hours are easy) I use it mostly for recording. Very versatile and solid in any coil setting. Sound like this one but Mine a little more versatile. Also completely passive. OOPS.... mine is a 4 string.

after watching this i still want a mononeon bass, but it gave me an idea you might consider.. you could do a video series that is a top five (or ten depending on your patience 😅) 5 claw basses at different price points 500-1000* 1000-1500* 1500-2000* 2000-2500 *just under so that the price tiers make sense* it could be a fun video, would be crazy informative with you doing it, and you could even do honorable mentions that would allow you to say other basses, reasons for not being on the list could be mods and mention mods you might do. this would obviously be a time consuming series, but it would allow you to showcase your knowledge, give you a massive boost in views as these videos ALWAYS get crazy views, and it might be a way to get your hands on some killer basses and maybe even ones youve never really played before

I have a guitar that I put Seymour Duncan P-rails in with the rings that have 3 way switching. The guitar has a 5 way fender switch. With over 25 combinations guess how many are used? Five. Yes ,five from the five way Fender type switch. This does not even cover blending in the peizo with those pickups.

I’ve played this twice in Memphis (my luck to be right near Mono’s home base) so of course the GC had it. Each time I play it, the neck is super comfortable and the tones are just fantastic…but I always put it back. Something always nags me to think there might be a model eventually that has those pickups and neck that will truly be “home”for myself. But for a Mono fan or someone who has the cash to spare, it’s a great sounding and feeling bass coming their way! I’ve heard it’s neck was based on his Lakland he played before the sponsorship (why they never offered him a bass is beyond me) so it almost made me want to check out some Skylines!

Honestly I feel like almost every artist signature bass is intended more as a collector's item than as a gigging instrument. That said, I have to agree on the price. I've owned (and in most cases returned or sold) a handful of MIM Fenders and they *always* have build quality issues. As much as I like many things about this bass (including the outrageous colors), I just could never justify spending so much on a MIM Fender. This is getting into the price range of the American Professional line. (Granted, prices on all instruments have really jumped in the past year.)

I quit bass for about 10 years cuz I had PTSD from my first wife dying in her late 20s. I want to start playing again, and I need some inspiration. Would you recommend spending an extra few hundred bucks for an American professional II jazz bass V? I honestly don't really care about active electronics. I already have a 4 string MIM fender P/J that was modded in 2010 with Aguilar OPB3 18V, Nordstrand pickups, and all new pots/wiring, wooley mammoth ivory nut, and sanded fretboard with new frets. Unfortunately the bass now needs work as the pots sound super crackley and the neck is a little messed up. I also had a 2005 American standard jazz bass that I unfortunately had to get rid of. It sounded amazing through my tube SVT (another piece of equipment that I had to part with). I also miss my pre-gibson Tobias Growler. That thing was sick.

@Room 34 / Scott Anderson @twice-vehk thanks for your guys' input. I'll be ready to pull the trigger on this pretty soon. It could be that I didn't see a good demo, but it seems the V-MOD II pickups on these American Pro II Jazz V basses are a little muddy on the E and B strings. Do you agree? Are those vintage ultra noiseless pickups any brighter? To me, it's worth the extra $230 if that's the case. That brings my price up to over $2130. Now here's my dilemma: Do I get the American Pro II Jazz V with upgraded pickups (either Fender vintage ultra noiseless, or possibly Aguilar, Barts, or Nordstrands), or do I get one of these USA Geddy Lee 4 string Jazz basses (no pickup upgrade required)? The USA Geddy Lee bass seems like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as I guess the latest model only got a limited run of 100 units (but it's only 4 string)... 🤔

I don’t think the price is off. If they made sure these were all under 10lbs and had better tuners, it would cost a lot more. As long as the tuners hold tune and don’t slip, I don’t see the problem . Personally the weight and the color would keep me from buying one. If they are successful, maybe Fender will offer another finish option that’s more traditional next go round. A white pearl pickguard to match the inlays and a plain or matching yellow headstock would tone it down some.

Being that this video is “old”, and probably no one, even @lowendlobster, reads comments here anymore. But met me make a couple of comments on this bass, and MonoNeon. I played one of these MonoNeon basses, and it was glorious!!! I loved its feel and tone. Of all the 8 basses I played that day (from Flea Sig to Sadowsky MasterBuilt) This is the bass I kept coming back to. If I had any money, I’d buy it. Now, about MonoNeon (with regards to this bass). Lobster complained about its weight. Armchair bassplayers all around complain about its weight. I happened to run into MonoNeon himself this past weekend in Memphis. The dude is small. He is about 5’5” and 100lbs soaking wet. If he can play this bass, so can you! If he doesn’t complain about the weight, you shouldn’t either. Suck it up and just play bass…!!!!

@@jackieclark8253 I agree. I should clarify that my intent was to point out that many players might be asked to play a different bass due to the neon colors . It might not fit with a certain image. In a perfect world, it shouldn’t matter. That bass sounds great. If I bought one , I’d have to replace the pickguard with a white pearl to match the inlays and remove the orange from the headstock . That’s my personal taste.

Being MIM doesn't automatically make it inferior. This bass would cost probably twice as much if it was made in the American factory a short distance away and I doubt it would sound twice as good. I recently picked up a player P-bass and took it to my luthier who said it was "fantastic!" All we'll do is upgrade the pick-ups but I like what's on them already. This luthier prefers to work on high end basses but he admitted he's gotten custom boutiques in his shop with issues so paying more for American or boutique is not an automatic indication you'll get something far superior or flawless. He sung the praises of my P-bass and said I got a "good one."
