Ryan, That's a fantastic rendition of Jane Says! Love it. good work.
My goal in life is to use all the wrong instruments, so with that in mind I would make this the center of a doom/drone project.
I did go out and buy this guitar today; the MIM in butterscotch. Thanks for demoing this awesome guitar, Ryan!

Can the acoustic side be used without an amp unplugged while chilling on the couch?
The crunch sound is cool-when I was 15/16I used to intentionally run my standard acoustic-electric guitar through the distorted channel of my Fender tube amp , with wah, compression, delay, and reverb, because I played in an acoustic psychedelic rock trio. One of these would’ve been bloody handy in those days, with the Tele pickup, as I played lead.

25 years ago I ran into a guy playing for tips in a small Reno bar. He had a cheap acoustic a boss multi effects unit (also on the cheap) and a keyboard amp. Music is it in the fingers never made as much sense as it did watching the guy perform a solo show comprised of rock blues and R&B.
Omg you rock for uploading this! I didn't even realize fender had put a cheaper version out yet!
Awesome intro, and awesome review. As a long-time subscriber, I still contend that your channel is wildly underrated and undersubscribed. Keep on keeping on.
man, i'd love to have one of these. they look amazing. props to Fender for doing something new
So rad to hear Jane Says! Haven't heard that in a while! And sounded awesome
Ryan, I have an MIA Tele that I use for playing at church. 99% I use the acoustic settings, positions 3-5, switching between them depending on the song; we have an electric player so I tend to avoid positions 1 & 2. And I'm not too keen on the electric sounds on the guitar in general; don't know if it's because of the pedals I'm going through, strings (as you point out) or amp (we go DI at church. I like the variety of sounds and have received a lot of positive comments. The one setting not available on the MIM is position 3, the percussion setting, which I really like to get the enhance harmonics acoustically. I was adverse to the guitar when I first saw them -- thought they were a gimmick --, but one of our other guitarists bought it for me (he already had one) and have grown to love it for it's playability and sounds. Great demo by the way!
Perfect review. Thanks for showing it's capabilities. Just the video I was looking for.
This video has definitely sold me on these. Lots of great playing too!
My favorite thing about the acoustasonic (and the highway series parlor and dreadnaught) guitars is the thin body. It’s as thick as an electric guitar instead of a deep body acoustic which is just hard to play on stage. I also like the necks better, easier to play
Enjoyed your playing. Thank you for a great review.
Damn Ryan, That has to be one your best opening jams. Shot man

Got one of these, used, for great price. Shadow burst. Love it! Amazing quality. For me, I use it mostly for the acoustic tones. And yes, perfect couch guitar too.
I think what this does is it makes the Acoustasonic more appealing. I think it's main market is people who gig with both an electric and acoustic and want to make doing so much easier. This means you don't have to run an A/B setup with different amps or an amp and PA or whatever. By lowering the price point, it makes it easier to justify.
When the MIA version was first released it had everything that I needed for the solo act I was doing, but the price point was just too high. That's when I stumbled upon the 2010 Acoustasonic Tele which I think completely flew under the radar due to its poor reception on the market. I wish some of these comparison videos would relate back to that earliest concept of this guitar. It truly is phenomenal and does everything I need without all the bells and whistles of these most recent models. Apparently it was before it's time.
That was a great demo. I still need to wait for the Squier version before I'll try it, but I agree that I too want to try every guitar too.

Appreciate the review.

Love the Jane's Addiction cover during the intro
I would use it more as an acoustic. I think Fender made a good choice doing this I know couple of people who liked the MIA but refused because of price.
Piezos seem to work best clean rather then overdriven, but extreme distortion works surprisingly well. You get a crisp percussive good sounding attack then a nice singing tone. Something like the Shark, taste it, or a Rat would be good.
You are the effects guy. I bought 5 Saphue effects pedals because of you. I really like those guitars. The simplicity and the awesome sound. Even without your effects.
When you get into the noise stuff, you remind me a little of Einstürzende Neubauten. You have a very good instinct for noise music.
I like it. I've seen some older videos and one recent one of the Acoustasonic, and they all seemed to stuck on the thin, quacky Piezo pickup sound. This is the first video I've seen that the Acoustasonic sounds much better than just passable. I think it actually sounds pretty good and musically inspiring. There is still some work to be done on the EQ, as the highs are a bit too thin. I think the solution is to boost the highs, then filter off the some/most of the "presence" range frequencies. I think it would be advantageous to have a tone knob, though I was pleasantly surprised at the effectiveness of the Blend knob. I think Fender is on the right track with the Acoustasonic. It looks very good and Ryan did a good job demoing it. One other thing. It has a bolt on neck, and the guitar could double as a full size "travel guitar" if the headstock was a bit shorter. The full length of the neck on my Strat is 26 inches, so I imagine the Tele is about the same. The airplane carry-on luggage length restriction is 22 inches where I live. If the headstock was a couple inches shorter, an un-bolted neck would probably fit "diagonally" in a carry-on suitcase along with the body. I think that would be very cool. 😎
just bought the MIA one and it works great for church PA system
Really like the intro man what song did you theme that on? You come out the cut with some really nice playing you're more of a musician than just a gear guy you should do some vids just playing.
This would be great for rhythm guitar in a cover band to easily switch between electric and acoustic
I like it. I love and have 3 Telecasters so I like it's appearance. I like the tones also.
Nice playing, Ryan - you should do more of these loopy-thingys so we get to see and hear the full extent of your skills :-)

It typically takes me an extra day of work to film a handfull of loop jams and then pick my favorites for a video like this, for that reason I tend to only include them with paid demos. I know thats kind of cynical but its tough making a living doing this so I have to be pretty protective of my time. It is fun though and I get a real sense of satisfaction out of getting a jam I actually like recorded.

Thank again man 👍
Thanks for your video. I would like to know what type of string and the caliber you have put on the guitar because the ones that come from the factory are very hard to do alone
id love to see like a next gen with software that would let you save the sounds you want to the different slots maybe even let you tweak the eq slightly
I love watching your videos. I have really bad right hand arthritis that set in and I cant even hold a pick. I can still strum but I was a sweep picker so that style of music is not my forte. That guitar sounds amazing. If you have any suggestions for me I am all ears
I’ve been thinking about getting an Acustasonic for the studio but didn’t want to spend the MIA money, for a $800 price cut I might be more tempted to get this MIM one
I have wanted an Acoustasonic Tele since the day they came out..Even having never played one..I knew off the bat that just the body size was something I was more suited for as I have back issues. I was not likely to be able to afford the MIA as here in Australia they’re around or over $3000. And then the MIM was released..And thought we’ll that’s a bit more affordable? Still held out a little as it was still pricey and I hadn’t managed to get my hands on one to play. Then..My local store happens to get a MIM in the finish I was after..Not only did I high tail it to the store..Played it and loved it…I immediately put down the deposit and have set about selling off my 3 other acoustics and 1 electric to cover the cost!! I’m now waiting anxiously for them to sell so I can bring her home! 😍🎸🤘🏻

You know, I don't understand why Aussies are always complaining about the prices of things over there compared to the US are so much higher. It's not true- you just aren't speaking the same language when it comes to "dollars". An Australian dollar is not the same as a US dollar. It's like us trying to compare our prices to UK pounds- only nobody ever does that because they are called "pounds" instead of "dollars", thats all.
I just bought one because of the versatility…most listeners will not be as discriminating and in a band with bass/Drum/accordion/lead electric Im gonna be happy in the mix

As I said in the premier chat, I love the idea of an Acoustasonic, but I can't justify purchasing one. This is a lot closer to something I could justify, but with my current finances, not yet.
Ryan, this is probably the best review I’ve seen you do! I really appreciate your candid thoughts on how you would use this guitar. Great job 👍 My wish with Fender is that they would improve the electric pickup options on these hybrids throughout the line. I don’t think they have nailed the sounds of their current choices. Maybe use a real looking pickup without the plastic look. Also, I would love to see them give us the option for humbucker pickups on the Strat and Tele models. I do think the acoustic modeling is done well. What do you think about my suggestions?
What is the shovel shaped guitar (white and wood) in the back ground in between the red and green guitar over his left shoulder?
I play regularly in a duo. Me on electric and my buddy on acoustic/singing. Sometimes I'd like to have an acoustic for certain songs or if I am singing the lead on a particular song, but I don't really want to bring and setup two guitars. This looks like the ideal solution for me. I still need to save up for a while though.
I'm waiting for the Acoustisquiersonic.
I will wait for the Squier version!!!!! Get it under £500 and I am in 🤑
Great video. I just don't like the concept and price of this model, but great job, Ryan.

I had the chance to play a friends JTV59 Variax and was blown away by the posibilities but also the raw analog neck pick up was sweet, especially with brown style distortion
My ideal version is just the acoustic modeling, drop the electric pickup and it's just a thinline acoustic that sounds great plugged in.
I think I’d pick up a Godin A6 instead, it’s snazzy though and I very much appreciate the review.
Channeled some serious 90s alternative today
That guitar sounds great
Do you have video showing how you did neck adjustment?
Really feels like this could be nice paired with a pod go or other modeler so you can kick it over to the electric pickup and have an actual patch for that. Could be a cool, versatile church guitar or something in that context. Definitely like the price point better than the MIAs, I don't think pushing two grand is a good fit for something so weird and niche. Would've loved to see one for under $1000 but that probably isn't realistic with what everything costs anymore.

Hi All. I just picked up a brand new butterscotch MIM acoustasonic for $500 on Reverb through Franklin guitars. Great transaction. They actually answer the phone and talk with you about questions you might have before the purchase. So far I think its the most fun guitar I have purchased for the price. Love how light it is and the neck feels really good. I would like to coax a slightly fatter jazz tone out of this guy. Anyone have any experience with settings I might have missed or possibly swapping out the neck pick up for a humbucker in a single coil size? Let me know your thoughts.
Gotta love a little Janes Addiction! Jane Says.
I'd like to see Justin Johnson play one of those. I bet he can make it sound great on blues music
What string gauge you have on it? I agree the acoustic sounds are where it shines
Thank you for your hard work. Appreciated. The pedals though, were not to my taste. I prefer the guitar 'naked'. Anyway, Well done!
I was really curious about these when they first came out. I play allot of solo shows but occasionally I manage to wrap someone into playing drums for me. I've tried to find a guitar that'll both let me do an acoustic folk thing and a guitar that'll work well with pedals to make it more interesting. After looking into these guitars I've decided they're not right for me. There are allot of other options out there that do the job better. I play a hallow body now and run it threw an acoustic simulator if it feels necessary.

Can you share what other guitars/options you're looking into? I own a Godin LGX-SA but always interested to check out other multi-voiced guitars.
Does it fit in a standard gig bag and not the big acoustic bag? Will it fit in a standard telecaster hard case?
This is a great guitar for someone who plays on a worship team at their church.
As an owner (and sometimes lover) of the original U.S.-made model (as a Tele), I appreciated your sound samples of the new one vs. your Jazzmaster. Valuable input for everyone interested in this. Adding my two cents‘ worth (also on the basis of two other videos I‘ve seen of the new model): I‘d say the new, cheaper, Mexican-made version is actually better (!) in terms of the basic acoustic sounds it offers - better as in „more realistic and woody“. The models used on the original model never really grabbed me. Will be glad to qualify that opinion if anyone wants to know. If you can live with fewer sounds (well, basically only with 2 acoustic sounds, but being able to blend them as needed), you‘ll maybe like the simulations more on this new model. As for the electric sounds, I also prefer their choices on the new model, though I find them slightly lacking in the treble/twang regions - i.e. they‘re a bit muddy to my ears. But running this into pedals, that shouldn‘t be a problem at all. As for the piezo-only sounds - interesting, but I‘d probably only be into the dirtier of the two, or maybe as a blended signal leaning more to the dirty one. And the missing body sensor pickup? Don‘t care about that because I‘m not really a percussive player, nor do I find that setting too useful live. Sure, it sounds woodier than the others, but it‘s also a bit boomy and somehow a bit nasal, and must be dosed with caution. I wonder how the electric sounds would be when run through a Fender Mustang Micro? That might make a killer setup for a bit of electric guitar in an otherwise acoustic set.

I noticed right away that the cheaper acoustasonic has a fatter almost humbucker type tone on the electric settings. Probably still good for someone that can't afford the extra 900 bucks for the other acoustasonic but to my ears I definitely prefer the more expensive electric tones.

@@robbymayer5987 Totally get you on the electric tones (old vs. new). Just wanted to add that I sold my American Tele version for a couple hundred more than the price of the Mexican version, and then purchased the Mexican version. That‘s how much more I liked the acoustic tones on it, despite whatever the electric tones are. That said, I only got it this morning and only had the chance to play it unplugged for a couple minutes, so no impressions of the modeled sounds yet. Feels almost identical to the American version, but the unplugged sound is actually somewhat different, as in a wee bit louder/fuller. This surprises - and delights - me! :-) Don‘t know if that‘s because of different woods used, or perhaps they might have changed some of the inner grouting or bracing in the meantime, since my American one was from way back when these first hit the market. Oh, and my American one was in the Natural finish, vs. Brushed Black on my new Mexican one. At any rate, I like the black better, and can‘t wait to put this baby through its paces soon.

Good video. I thing though. You took the time to tell us you changed the strings and it changed the sound. You didn't tell us what strings you used? What gauge? How it changed the sound compared to the fender strings? How it affected the guitars set up if the gauge was changed? I think that would be info we would all like to know.
