Feminism & the Curses of Eve

What were the 39 curses decreed upon Adam, Eve, and the Serpent following the Forbidden Fruit in the Garden of Eden? What do the “curses of Eve” have to do with the status of women throughout history, and the feminist movement in modern times? And might certain aspects of feminism be part of a larger global transition prophesied long ago in the Tanakh and other ancient Jewish sources?

Another great message, and "yes, I agree that Hashem is lifting the curses now" in preparation for the messianic age. Another possible interpretation for Jeremiah 31:22 I thought possible, however, is that in the end, "A woman will PROTECT a man." I have heard this other translation for "circle or encompass" to also mean "protect." This makes sense to me because when Hava ate from the forbidden tree, and gave to her husband.....at that time.....she certainly wasn't "PROTECTING HER HUSBAND, was she?" We were created to be Adam's "help me and type of protector," but we failed, so this could be our final "Tikun Olam." I have certainly lived this out experientially in my last relationship as confirmation. My marriage of 32 years was not to a Jew, and although I believe he was meant to be part of my journey, it was a cursed marriage in many ways; I lived out the curses: I was rebellious, and I did NOT protect him in many ways. He had his issues as well, but I'm just speaking of my own shortcomings, and I was cursed with NO CHILDREN. So, my womb was cursed as well. To this day, it grieves my soul that I was denied this "mitzvah." Perhaps in the messianic kingdom I can have some babies.

Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character 10 [a]A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. 13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. 16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. 18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. 19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. 20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. 21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. 22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. 25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. 26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. (Proverbs 31:10-31)

I'm not very learned, but it kind of reminded me of the (paraphrase) that we currently follow [the halakha of] Beit Hillel, but in the messianic age we will follow Beit Shammai. Is this true? If so, it makes me think along the lines that what is now the customs/norms/etc. will have this kind of reflexive spin or twist on itself in the future. Not necessarily a reversal or a diametric swing, although it may appear so at the surface level. Thanks for the shiur!

While the subject largely focuses on the Curses of Eve and related themes, did wonder if the response of Adam in the aftermath of the fall and the 130 or so year separation between them was also prophesied to manifest in some more familiar form in the past few decades via the Manosphere and those opting to go their own way as a bachelor or single dad, ghost and quiet quit in plain sight. Essentially applying the Pirkei Avot quote "Who is wise? One who learns from all people", which can be interpreted as learning from both positive examples as well as what not to do from negative examples from the people within our lives.

Although even before Bais Yakov I've learned from R. Dr. David Katz that chasidics (in Austro-Hungary I think) would send their daughters to secular schools (but would die on the tracks save their boys from the same (already being in cheder))

Partnership minyans are interesting. Only those shebekavod (is that the right term?) tefillot aren't said by women with a male and female orthodox 'double minyan' as much as halacka will allow.

Baal means Master. God is our master. My guess is that people made a statue and called it Master (putting it into a position of "Master" over them). This rightly angered God, replacing Him in their lives with an imposter, naming the imposter with a usurped identity. My guess is a similar phenomenon with Molech. Identifying and serving an idol, calling it "king" instead of God who is really the King.

In the immediate aftermath of WWII, the French shaved the hair of any French women thought to have had relations with the occupying German forces. The women 🎉were then paraded through the streets with their bold heads while people stood on either side of the street witnessing their humiliation jeering at them and insulting them. This was captured on film. The allies were disgusted by this but stood aside saying that their countries had not been invaded so they would not stop the native French from doing this as they could not fully understand the pain the French had gone through during the occupation.

I believe a woman's shaved head is INCREDIBLY SHAMEFUL, and meant to be a "sign of humiliation." And, I also believe a woman's hair "is her glory." I DO NOT cover my head whatsoever, and have NEVER felt compelled to do so. I used to have shorter hair, though, at different times in my life. Now, it is very long and flowing.

But Rabbi Bahya commented that women brought death to the world. And Rabbis justified the Hallacha that exempt women ftom positive time bound commandments on the groundscthst, women sre enslaved by their husbands.yet the halacha obligate unmarried women widows for no justification. And the hslacha forbade men to teach in-depth Torah to women and forbade fathers to teach the Shema words tobtheir daughters.

Read Proverbs 31. The Proverbs 31 wife is "more precious than rubies," and certainly was a bit of a feminist. From the looks of that passage, she did all the work, including buying and selling a field while her husband just hung out at the city gate. Hashem LOVES HIS DAUGHTERS.....I can testify that to be true in my own life. A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.

@@kurthill7030 Well, you know...orignally WOMEN were created to be a "HELP MEET" FOR ADAM. So, if you want to argue with me over semantics, I guess that is your issue. Even with women having "equal value," I STILL believe our role in life WAS AND IS to be a "WIFE AND A HELP MEET FOR MAN." With the right man, that is a MOST HONORING ROLE. And, I was trying to give you SCRIPTURE rather than my own personal words, but if you read that passage, you can SEE what kind of WOMAN HASHEM HOLDS IN ESTEEM. Basically, she is of good moral character, she is a HARD WORKER, and ALWAYS PROTECTS AND HONORS HER HUSBAND. There other things mentioned if you go back in read. Is that the kind of woman we see in today's world? NOT REALLY. Not for the most part. I believe in TRADITIONAL VALUES, BUT HAVE A MIND OF MY OWN as it should be. wOMEN SHOULDN'T BE ABUSED OR MISTREATED OR TREATED LIKE SLAVES OR PROPERTY. That kind of shabby treatment was the result of the CURSES on Eve's daughters.
