Felipe Anderson joins Lazio exodus

Спорт

Felipe Anderson was the second big Lazio player in three days to announce he is leaving the club. We react to the news of his move to Palmeiras, Luis Alberto's controversial comments, the rebuilding job needed in the summer and ask - is the Champions League still an achievable objective?

u25 Italians from bottom of the league clubs, who have played 50-200 games in Serie A and B is what we need. We already have starters. We even have loads of goalkeepers. Lazzari is only leaving if it is for Inter, and they are paying 20m+. Provedel Patric - Romagnoli/Casale - Gila Lazzari/Marusic - 2x Guedouzi/Cataldi/Vecino/Rovella/Akpro/MA - Pellegrini Isaksen - Kamada? (/*new*) Taty (/*new*) Sure it is not winning the Champions League, but if we consider Simeone a purchase to start of the bench and fight to take over the starting position over the season, then we just might be buying a mix of Valeris, Lazzaris, Isaksens, Luis Albertos (remember how he was a huge flop in Liverpool) time 10. 10x u25 and several u21 for the bench. Are we playing CL, then sure Kamadas, Guendouzis and Rovellas... Are we not playing in Europe at all, then we are less depending on the bench, and we can try players like Valeri, Zappa, Lovati, Coppola (u21), Pirola (u21), Fazzini (u21) etc. These might be players of a much higher level, than they have played at, or maybe not. However, these are the Mandas' of this world, just without the need to adapt to the country, language, and league. So even if they are young, then they are useful from day1. And they do not break over starting their Lazio career with a round of COVID and an injury, followed by struggling to find form (Muriqi). They also cost half, of what they are worth to us. We are talking about players, who cost maybe 5-10m at most, where internationally we need to look at Isaksens and Guendouzis at 10-20m, who might as well also flop (Guendouzi was considered a flop in Arsenal afaik, similar situation to Luis Alberto). If Valeri flops for us, then he will have the level of a player in the bottom of Serie A, if an international player like Muriqi flops for us, then they struggle to maintain Serie B level form. We need more of the cheap and higher minimum level players, however while risk is lower, then reward is also likely not going to be as extreme. But if we get into EL (maybe CL), then players like Colpani, Samardzic, Fabbian, Orsolini, Ferguson etc. might be possible (especially if Bologna do not get to CL). However, we need to consider that a 20-21yo centerback, who has the level to start in any Serie A club (it is much harder at that age for a centerback compared to a striker), then they absolutely have a place on our bench, and will be relevant to start for us in 1-2 seasons. Bench: Mandas/Maximiano/Adamonis, Adamonis/Furlanetto/Magro/Renzetti *new* - Casale/Romagnoli - *new* *new*/Lazzari/Marusic - 2x Cataldi/Rovella/Akpro/MA/*new*/*new* - *new* 2x Cancellieri/Basic/Taty/*new*/*new* *new* (/Taty) That is 3-9 reserves (likely ~6-7), 0-2 starters (likely ~1). If we play CL next season, then those starters on top might be so for the first 5 rounds of Serie A, but as it was this season, then after 10-15 rounds, then you see the new players pushing their way into rotation. And this is without factoring in Kamenovic (seems like a left-central defender, might fit in this system); RFM/Novella/Fares (who I think are wingbacks more than fullbacks?); Bertini/Marino/Crespi (probably not next season, but maybe the one after); Ruggeri/Sardo/Balde2.0/SF/Gonzalez/Sulejmani (who all seem to be developing rapidly for primavera, and they might win the league title this year, considering it is a playoff system at the end). We OWN so much potential, that the we can cover replacements for the dinosaurs with this seasons CL money, and have the money to buy the relevant players, at the relevant level, for what tournaments we are playing next season. New manager, new system, new start, new opportunity... For everyone.

This club doesn't know what it's doing. Plain and simple. They proved this by going from a 3-5-2 with Inzaghi to getting an inflexible 4-3-3 ideologue like Sarri. Now, on the surface of it that's not really a problem. Different managers have different systems and formations. So that's not really a surprise. But when you understand the context it IS a problem. Because when you switch to contrasting systems like that, the new manager will obviously need players who fit the positions of his system. And given how cheap and frugal Lotito is...THAT IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. So the manager is stuck trying to fit square pegs into round holes. That's why a flexible manager is key for Lazio. I think we played best in a 3-5-2. I think it's the smartest formation we can go with along with maybe a 3-4-3. Reason being is these formations are extremely well rounded and flexible with few weaknesses. In a 3-5-2 you have a natural overload in the midfield and can control the midfield easier which is the key area of the pitch. You also have 3 CB instead of 2...And when you add the wingbacks/fullbacks into the equation it easily becomes a back 5 when the team is absorbing pressure from the opposition. It makes absorbing and dealing with that pressure much easier since you have more defenders than a back 4 would have. And usually you will also have a defensive midfielder in front of those 3 CBs. So you essentially have 6 defensive players on the pitch (3 CBs, 2 Wingbacks and a DM) which make it harder for the opposition when they have the ball. As I mentioned in attack you have a 3 man midfield in the 3-5-2 which in reality becomes a 5 man midfield because of the wingbacks. You have 2 strikers up front (a classic 9 and second striker with more of a free role). And the wingbacks give you the width on the wings to make up for not having traditional wingers. Quality wing backs are essential to execute this system. Because they are the ones who make the formation so flexible. They help make the back 3 into a back 5 when needed. They help with the midfield overload making it from a 3 man midfield to a 5 man midfield. And they also provide the attacking width you would typically have with traditional wingers so when going forward it's more of a 3-3-4 as they are overlapping and providing the wing play for the strikers. Inter and Bayer Leverkusen also play this system. And they have Di Marco/Dumfries and Grimaldo/Frimpong respectively. The problem is of course Lotito. He's always the problem at this club. If having a manager of the stature of Sarri, getting UCL qualification money, AND selling SMS can't motivate this guy to spend a decent amount then nothing will. I mean sure he spent SOME money. But they were very underwhelming transfers imo. Castelanos and Rovella are the only ones that weren't bargain bin transfers. There rest were. Kamada's salary was financed by our kit manufacturer and I believe he came on a free transfer as well. Isaksen was only like 12 million out of the Danish league. Guendouzi is a loan. So Sarri didn't get any of his actual targets which is a big reason why he fell out and things went south this season. He wanted players like Zielinski and Berrardi and Milik and didn't get any of them even though they were very affordable and achievable targets. So now we change systems again. Does anyone really think Lotito will back Tudor and give him the players he needs to succeed? Of course not. I'm not talking about Mbappe or Bellingham or Foden or Cubarsi or Vinicius Jr level transfers. I'm talking players of Zielinski's and Berrardi's caliber. Shrewd transfers for players that can rub elbows with the very best and still produce, while costing only 15-30 million. Which in today's professional football for a big club in one of the 4 strongest leagues in the Europe is absolute peanuts. But as we've seen even those sort of names/transfers are wishful thinking at this club....Lotito is literally spending less on transfers than we spent in the 1990s! I want you all to really think about that. We spent more money on transfers THIRTY YEARS AGO!!!!! And needless to say the market and prices have exploded since then. So spending 10-15 million in today's market is the equivalent of a 1-4 million Euro transfer in the late 90s. We're working with essentially nothing. Like a mid table or promoted club. And even those have outspent us a good chunk of the time. It's embarrassing and really shows the lack of ambition and cheap ways of Lotito. I can see Lotito being cheap again and forcing Tudor to shoehorn wingers like Isaksen into the new system. Maybe he'll go for a 3-4-3 so we can still use the wingers we have. Or maybe he'll use Isaksen as part of the 2 forwards in a 3-5-2 giving him a bit of a free role to run around and support the main striker. Idk. I like Tudor. And I like his system. But once again, with Lotito at the helm there will be lots of limitations to what the manager can do and what players he can field on the pitch. I hope that I'm wrong and he finally loosens the purse strings just a bit. But I highly doubt it. If all the money we received last summer AND having Sarri didn't make him spend on decent transfers nothing will. Remember the whole squad and Sarri wanted Berrardi last summer! And he cheaped out because Sassuolo wanted 25-30 million. You can't even get this guy to go 5 million over his VERY LOW limits because he acts like it's purchasing Mbappe. So he went for players like Taty instead. Who was 18 million. Instead of spending the 7-12 million more on a proven Italian Serie A player like Berrardi. Who can score 15-20 goals per season and create a good number of assists. Instead Lotito went with some unproven MLS guy who had ONE good game in La Liga against RM. Same thing with Zielinski. Napoli were willing to sell him for 25-30 million because he was entering his final year. He was their best attacking midfielder and is also a great all-round box to box midfielder who just played a pivotal role in Napoli winning Serie A. A key part of their title. 25-30 million for a player of that caliber who was only 29/30 yrs old at the time is a steal! Especially given we were losing Milinkovic-Savic and needed a solid replacement and new midfield general. Zielinski has been one of the best mids in Serie A for the last 8-10 years. But Lazio weren't willing to go over 20 million LOL. For a player whose actual production and ability is closer to midfielders who typically would cost 50-80 million. It was a golden opportunity. So again...We're not asking Lotito for 80 million transfers. We're asking fractions of that. But you can still get some great players for 20-30 million IF you are smart. The problem is Lotito's limit seems to be 18 million as that is what he spent on Taty and Muriqi. So getting him to spend even in the 15-18 million range is like pulling teeth. And when the club do spent that 18 million they are not smart and waste it on obscure players with little to no track record in the top leagues like Muriqi or Taty.
