Fela Kuti was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos on September 4th 1984. He was traveling to the United States of America on a musical tour with his band. He was charged to court for traveling with 1,600 Pounds Sterling against the 50 Pounds Sterling approved for an individual to travel with. Fela was sentenced to 5 years in prison by the military regime of Buhari. He was however released after 2 years in prison in 1986.
