With 0.5% Cubersecurity Fee being charged by Nigerian government, Even today, this week, this month, May 07, 2024, this legendary song about inflation and govt harsh policies is very relevant to contemporary happenings in Nigeria. Rest on Fela

Congas with shekere followed by the agogo then before you notice join in the big congas then subtly joins in the drum kit. They all stop at once to allow in the melodious guitars and thereafter joins in the entire percussion team punctuated by Fela's Keyboard solo...…. I mean, they don't make music like this anymore. Like Femi, this is my favorite Fela song

My Best Fela piece ever! His lyrical commentary which is politically scathing of Nigerian governments is eerily prophetical. You will not hear a more authentic Nigerian musical arrangement than this...a salute to analogue technology in capturing sound, voices & nuance. This was Fela at his prime.

That's one of the things that sets him apart from anyone today. That and his insanely great art that he created. I don't understand how anyone listens to anything in at least the last 20 years and calls it art or calls those who make that shit artists. This is why I love older music.

A lot of my favorite artists had to make room in my musical heart for this man and his bands. It's amazing how their music about overcoming struggles uplifts me. When I listen to them the term "intense resistance music festival" comes to mind. I transport myself to a pleasurable and endless festival of how fucked we've been as a people, but how we face oppression and life obstacles with grace. Philosophically and spiritually, it's just like the blues. It's a huge mixture of feelings that provides a lot of strength.

This song is about the crazy inflation occassioned by poor economic policies and huge theft of public resources by the military government of Nigeria at the time. He talks about a guy with a plan to buy a fan. The dude saved and saved, but before he gets to the market "Government show don enter" and scattered his plans. Because of the enjoyment can never come his way. Given the recent economic woes in nigeria and the crazy inflation happening in Nigeria even now in 2022, this song stays relevant. Rest in Power wise one Fela kuti

This song takes a while to get started (just settling into that delicious, infecfious groove) but once it gets going, you get the piano solo leading up to the head, played once through, straight into the second time, straight into the solo, straight into the vocal bit and once there, there are some moments of just having a bit of a breather, enjoying the groove but that while (mostly) instrumental is just on to the next bit, done, on to the next bit, done, on to the next bit etc. I LOVE that about this song. A lot of his other songs have more moments, also early on, with relaxed feel. But here there's a real sense of urgency. Also, I found a vinyl copy in Rotterdam way back in '89 (or '90, before the cd release). I still have it.
