The first time you actually hook into a thermal and watch the launch point drop away below you will probably stay with you the rest of your days. Despite intense heat on launch the air will be cool on your face and be a mix of excitement and refreshing. My first real thermal soar was on bastion mountain across the lake from salmon arm which is not too far from you. 2 1/2 steps and you’re over the cliffs edge and flying. I have so many special memories of flights from that mountain. Super cool sport that’s much more than something to do. I can feel the excitement of your flights and remember the days of counting 360’s in my log book. Cheers

My first glider was a seagull 3 and pretty much a rogallo lawn dart compared to what people learn on these days. I made numerous high flights in it in calm conditions because it was unstable in lift conditions before moving on to an eagle delta cloud. Much better but hard to land so I moved on to a UP condor A big floater that gave me my first thermal experiences before moving on to a double surface UP comet. I haven’t flown in 35 years but the comet hangs in its bag above the basement door. If I ever started again I’d but a new carbon fibre topless glider. Nice chatting

I started to build and fly our own in 73 . Then we got our hands on the Cirus gliders from Newman in Albuquerque. Think that was 75..

@@davidmasland8066 Yes,that would have been a Cirrus 3 from Electra Flyer, owned by Larry Newman . That glider was copied by a company called True Flight ( Doug Banner ) manufactured in Vancouver B.C. The only thing about the Canadian version ( copy ) was the hang point was put too far forward resulting in a forward CG with the glider being trimmed way too fast. They fixed the problem by hanging a big bracket off the back of the downtubes to hook into. We affectionately called the company "True Fright "
