Basi cant see. So whoever takes care of her must be very patient. It takes a special nanny to take care of basi.

BASI was a gorgeous Giant Panda. She was loved by many. Getting to live 37 years -for a Giant Panda- is a very long life, considering the average age in the wild is just above 20 years. Basi put all her trust in her keepers, who were giving her tender loving care when she was at high age. Just look at the interaction of those two in the video. Thank you for caring!

This legendary female panda Basi has passed away at the age of 37 (140+ human year) in 2017, only one year after her beloved keeper and human mom in this video, Ms Shi Feining, who died in 2016. They are reunited now.

I just learned that Basi has already left us... Each time I watch this video seeing how the keeper feed her, I cannot control my tears. She just sat there very comfortably, knowing that it's meal time. The keeper will knead the feed patiently and put it into his mouth. The consolating thing is that she was properly taken care of till her last days. May you rest in peace, Basi 🙏

Yes, it's very sad, but Basi was the longest living panda. She lived till 37, that's very old for pandas. Normally pandas only live for 20 years in the wild. We should be happy that she had a happy calm life for so long.

WoW!!!! So emotional. Cannot stop these tears from rolling down my face. So hard seeing this beautiful Queen Panda go through something like this knowing the impact she had on sooo many who adored and loved her. I just wanna hug this beautiful girl and take away all of her pain and misery. RIP Sweet Queen Basi.

some species are always blind, they live by touch / smell. it's not always sad . but for a panda who lives by daylight it is indeed sad

I like that she gave Basi the dignity of holding her bowl of food and made her feel useful.

I never see a smart panda like basi. Basi is great.

I just want to tell you that the person in the video, the administrator who fed basi for 27 years, died in March 2016, and basi died in September 2017. BASI was 37 years old and went to find its favorite administrator, FEI NING sister.

Basi , the female giant panda was the original model of ‘Panpan’, the mascot for the first Asian games (in China, 1990). She died at 8:50am on September 13, 2017, at the age of 37. RIP Ba Si

She lived for 37 years being blind and that's record!! Average panda life is 20-30 years

I'm crying right now... my Japanese Spitz is already old, he might be blind or deaf when time comes.

Awww, poor dear sweet panda! Why is she blind? Old age or sickness? Can eye vet.Drs. do a corrective surgery, even for one eye or even just make her see little better. I feel so sorry for her. If I don't forget I'll pray to God for her eyes to see. Are there some good Christians around that dear panda who can believe and pray to Jesus for his creature to be healed. To Anonymous Bill , BS, Basi was blind due to eye illness called 'cataract', it started in her left eye when she was 16 year old.(1996). Even with medication, Basi's cataract condition continue to worsen, and in 2001, Basi also suffered from high blood pressure. Eventually, cataract surgery was done on her left eye in 2002, the world first for Panda & was successful. Basi passed away in 2017, at that time in record, she was the longest living Panda at the age of 37. In the wild, wild Panda usually live to around 20 years old.
