Very well is an understatement, Federer had his longest winning streak of 41 matches.

What a difference of style and talent between Canas and F. But im impressed by mental and fisical strenght of players like Canas, and by the heart they put in ground. They are able to compete and sometimes win great matches like this. I miss players like Canas in today tennis. Greetings from Rome Italy

MiguelXABI14 Ya sé que sos el típico pelotudo que siempre anda por las redes solo para provocar, pero solo te voy a responder como fue lo del doping para quienes no lo sepan. Primero el doping fue en 2005 y por tomar un medicamento que le dio un medico de la ATP. Se supone que lo que te da un medico de la ATP no debe estar contaminado Y Cañas fue suspendido por no avisar a la ATP que había tomado este medicamento ENTREGADO POR UN MEDICO DE LA ATP! Después si realmente fueras tan fan de Federer sabrías que Cañas le corta dos semanas antes en IW un record de 42 victorias consecutivas. Y a la siguiente semana le gana en Miami, o sea en una le quita un record que todavía mantiene Vilas de 46 victorias consecutivas en ATP y a la siguiente le gana en 3ra ronda de otro M1000 a vos te parece con la persecución que seguramente le tenía la ATP no hubiese dado positivo en uno de esos partidos? Que no les convenía que Federer consiga otro record y encima a la siguiente semana se va en 3ra de un M1000? Igual te entiendo a vos lo único que te interesa es provocar, pero para la próxima al menos intenta informarte sobre lo que estas hablando. Ya que hablas tanto de doping habla del que le cubrieron a Agassi los de la ATP , pero claro Agassi vende mucho más que cualquier latino y si querés también podes hablar del doping que cubrieron a la super estrella que apareció en 2005 y seguramente también cubrieron porque vende. Para la próxima ya que vas a hablar informate.

i remember this match and the one beforehand in Indian Wells, canas completely neutralized federer's game, just look at federer's frustration when he was hitting as hard as he can and canas returning all his shots back into play. canas resilience back then was something else.

Just passing through on my journey to watch every Federer match.

Still can't believe Federer lost this match - he hit so many amazing winners!

He was playing a doper. Canas was later busted. He tried to come back after his suspension but wasn't the same player - for obvious reasons.

@@maucharcg He wasn't "declared innocent". The doping charges were dropped but CAS deemed he was careless in his use of a masking drug. He never showed fatigue. That looks like a doper to me.

No, he isn't, and he wasn't a legend. He made a big suprise... Two win in Masters Series with No 1, after drug problems... I hate him, because it ruins beauty of this sport!

@@97kos you're wrong, he was doped in 2005. He make his apparition here in 2007 after suspension and beat Federer these times in a row and at this point he wasn't doped.

back then this was a HUGE upset not like today when fed is losing to nobodies like montanes frequently. federer was almost unbeatable in 2007

Nah, Fedex was still really dominant in 2007 as well - he won 3 of the 4 Grand Slams in 2006, 10 titles in total, etc

i remember that comeback of canas after the antidoping incident... its a shame he is not playing at THIS level anymore, but it was a great moment of his career. I m from argentina, but of course, i dont think canas is better than federer, thats ridiculous. but I think it was a great moment for canas, and all the sacrificies he did back then, worth it. I ll remember this match as best of canas.

Wrong, Cañas is a vile cheat and doper who would never have won were he not a foul scumbag who took PEDs. He is not “the man,” but instead a runty loser who will never live up the wonderful achievements of class acts and gentleman such as Federer and Nadal. How horrid that this man was ever allowed to tarnish this great sport with his undeserving presence. I am sure everyone of sound mind will agree with ME, thank goodness.

Besides, you have to admit that he's keeping the ball incredibly deep, which is part of the reason why Fed made tons of UEs. Furthermore, in the TBs he played his share of aggressive points. Came to net.

A Federer le paso lo mismo contra Djokovic en el Master 1000 de Montreal. Perdió sendos partidos 7-6 2-6 7-6 pero jugó muy bien en los dos encuentros. Lo que pasa es que sufrió un pequeño bajón mental en los 2 tie breaks, lo que propició las derrotas contra Cañas y Nole.

That wasnt manipulating any kind of shot, he tried to hit a topspin backhand to Canas weaker side (a tactic he used throughout this match with agression), but mistimed it but fortunately for him, landed at quite a favourable position to finish the point in different ways; in his case a very good side-slice dropshot

I think you're wrong. I play D1 Tennis and your arguement of saying the follow through and nature of the swing is fluid is not good enough to say it was a clean hit. As you know the majority of semi-pro and professional Tennis players have a good technique and when they do mistime the ball the technique is EXACTLY the same when hitting a clean shot; the key difference is the timing. Fed is very capable of hitting such a shot, but there it seemed off-time, by the noise and his head positioning.

well if u think about it, fed's 15 grand slams. hw many would he have won if all the finals was met by canas?

Everyone during their peak is beatable. Especially by dopers.

First signs of Federers decline. Canas beat Federer twice in a row. Later Nadal and Djokovic became too strong as we all know. Only some weeks until Federer loses his grand slam record. And he will lose nearly every record.

Peak Federer at least reach 10 consecutive Major finals in his prime 2005-2007 , 8 consecutive Major finals also between 2008-2010 when passed his prime. .. by the way no body did it before in the history of tennis ... Nadal reach 5 once in his career , Djokovic reach 6 once also …… simply prime Federer is the best tennis player ever
