This was a bit of a spur of the moment type of recording, originally I was going to try a T-bolt in Murphysboro, but some neighboring communities were cancelling due to the holiday, so I figured I'd try the safe option and record a Modulator instead. Don't worry, I do have a Murphysboro recording I'm planning to release in the future.
This Modulator is located in Summersville, which is a sort of "town" right next to Mount Vernon, Illinois. There's some houses, an airport, and a school. But that's about it. This replaced a EOWS 612 back in late 2018. Apparently they were sold to a neighboring county, but I haven't had the chance to check it out. As much as I love the 612s, these cover a lot better. Towards the end you can actually hear Mount Vernon's other 8032Bs, even the voice announcement. When they had the 612s, I could barely make them out in the background.
Mt. Vernon, much like the rest of Illinois, tests on the first Tuesday of the month at 10am, unless severe weather is forecast. During severe thunderstorms, the wail tone is used for the full 3 minute cycle. During tornado warnings, alert is used and is sounded during the full duration of the warning.

I’ve always liked how Mt Vernon does live voice messages over their system, especially when tones get broadcasted over the system.

The MC controller sounnded more eerie with the 200-850HZ windup at 3.1-3.5 seconds Wail Down Sweep was 12 seconds from 850 to 300 and Wail up was 300-850 at 3-3.1 seconds and the wind down was about 16 seconds

I’ve been waiting for a video on the voice programed mods in this system Also I have the exact same activation DTMF tones for my 2006 UV and my FCM They are the defaults for early production UVs and late production MCPs The format usually starts with 154#AX the X being the function digit My FC activates like this 154#A* (arm) 154#A1 (steady) (delay) 154#A0 (cancel)
I live in kuwait and this sounds like our air raid sirens.I know because we had a test The air raid sirens exactly went off while i was in my class at 10:00 But sadly i only heard a Thunderbolt 7026 wail However,i did see the siren though.For tests,the civil defence uses the speaker alert about the siren test.First,the siren will speak in arabic and then english.
Isn't there a inactive thunderbeam like a street over or somethin'
So how do modulators work? Are they like many speakers/sirens stacked up or what
Oh! I so am going to miss the old mechanical sirens as they gradually get scrapped and replaced by these, but this is the wave of the future... Solid state - no moving parts to fail, easier to replace because it's modular in construction... It requires less power to operate, and you can talk through them as well!

Honestly, these suck in terms of longevity. Any old mechanical siren would outlast these by almost decades. The more sensitive electronics opens more doors for things to go wrong despite how it seems.
Why do these and the Whelens play the DTMF tones?

The voice clarity is certainly par none. Been looming up bids of the newer modulators and they do seem to be unparalleled on the clarity and quality of voice messages, both pre recorded and live
