There are several roof mounted 2001s around the MSP metro that the local enthusiasts refuse to record, so I’ve taken it upon myself to record some of them. This particular one is located in the ring two suburb of Burnsville, and sits perched atop Echo Park Elementary School. It was installed around the year 2000 along with the 12 other SRNs on the system. This was one of the loudest 2001s that I’ve heard, and I’d highly recommend this location to anyone who has an opportunity to film a test in Minneapolis-St. Paul. I’ll be filming more MSP 2001s in the future, so stay tuned for that.
Dakota County tests their siren system on the first Wednesday of every month at 1PM.

It's insane how clearly you can hear the Bloomington Thunderbolt @ 0:22 and 2:57, even more so than the 2001s in Savage which are half the distance from you.

In the points that you can hear Bloomington’s sirens, Savage’s sirens were not going off. Scott County started their test after Hennepin County, and cancelled them before Hennepin County had finished. Hennepin made a mistake this particular month and hit the tornado warning button, so they ran a full alert instead of the regular test.

Nice. I'm surprised nobody got suspicious...that's why I never record stuff at schools until summer unless the county I'm in tests on Saturdays when nobody is there.

Nice! And why is it mounted on the school?

There are several reasons that mounting sirens on top of schools is a common practice. It’s a location that’s close to an adequate power source, outdoor activities are common, it’s easy to service, the mount will stay stable throughout the siren’s lifetime (wooden poles rot over time, while metal won’t), and it’s city owned property that they don’t have to rent from a private owner. This is the same reason you see so many sirens located on or next to water towers, police and fire departments, city halls, etc.
