We just went through putting my brother's dog asleep and because of you guys I started calling it the last act of kindness because that's truly what it was. If there had been anything more that could have been done, then that's what would have happened, but it was the greatest kindness we could have ever done to relieve her suffering. And it is amazing just how similar the process was. And she is no longer in pain.

Honestly I am relieved for all of you that this was an easier auction. The last few months have been super rough with some very very sad broken down horses. My heart was hurting and I'm just sitting here, watching from home. You're there in real time. It was nice to see you be able to take your time and even crack a joke or two. ❤️

So sad to see the walking horse mare have to be put down. She seemed to have such a sweet personality, and has had such a rough life. She deserved a comfortable retirement. I'm so thankful you were there to send her off with grain, gentleness, and love. Using her experience to educate people about the euthanasia process was a good idea. Maybe that bit of education will help to calm down some of the ever- present critics.

If i remember correctly (I've watched a number of these videos today, and I'm having trouble keeping them straight!), she had some really deformed, painful joints that they couldn't treat successfully. Some of that damage undoubtedly came from being shown in the Big Lick. Also, she was quite old--they wouldn't put her down for that, but age complicates efforts to treat other conditions. The folks at Horse Plus seem willing to do anything possible to help the horses they rescue. I've seen them send horses off to specialists, and they're talking now about training staff to spay mares, which could help with so many conditions, but isn't common practice. So many of the treatments used on people and smaller pets just aren't practical for horses because of their size and weight, especially anything that compromises their legs. I think even broken legs are sometimes being treated now, but it's so prolonged and stressful, they wouldn't want to put an elderly horse through all that. I know it's hard on everyone when they have to give up on a rescue. It's not always easy to accept when the horse looks pretty good. I think we can be confident that they've weighed all the possibilities before taking that final step.

@@Channel24377 First of, she was older, second she had beginning arthritis in her knees, one hip was loose, so it popped in and out while walking, while the other side was fused. Her knees were at a different height, which made one start to tilt and bend. Because of her age, a surgery won't fix it. Most of these symptoms comes from the big lick society, where they start riding foals, and most big lick horses are out of business at a very early age, because of the damage that is done. Having grown men sitting on yearlings that shouldn't been put weight on, before they are at least 3 years old... The last part of a horses growth/development, isn't done before at 6-7 years old. Most horses shouldn't be ridden or made do heavy work, until the age of 4-5... So the kindest thing to do for this mare, was to let her sleep, and never suffer pain ever again.. If you watch her eyes, her soul was already kind of gone, she was mostly an empty shell, her body is there, but her mind is gone, it's what we mean when we talk about horses shutting down.. That happens from abuse (like big lick) and training (like flooding, which is the old ride the buck out of the horses) I hope this gave you some clarity.

All the babies are so happy going out to pasture! It's such a beautiful thing to see. Thank y'all and God bless y'all for all of your hard work and taking care of these precious kiddos!! I had to put my old man down on January 28th of this year. He was 31 years old and after having him for 24 years, it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do but I know I did the right thing. He's in heaven with all of my other babies and I know I'll see them again one day. I found a poem that helped me.. Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I've left behind some misery. My days of youthful agility were no longer a possibility. My weak joints and cloudy eyes were longing for heavenly skies. Before I lost all dignity, you let me enter eternity. Don't grieve for me, you've set me free, just remember how I used to be!

I learned a method for winter bathing of a horse from an English groom on the internet. I was driving my pony in the Christmas parade and wanted him to look good. The English method is that you heat a bucket of water with a heater wand. Mine gets the water to 180 degrees. You put a squirt of shampoo in the water then you dip a towel in and then wring it out. Wipe down the horse with the steaming towel redipping and rinsing when it gets dirty. Then you can throw a blanket on for an hour till they are no longer damp. It works wonderfully.

I'm wondering if a riding facility dumped their line? So many chipped horses, so weird! Really pretty and nice horses thankfully.

This was fantastic video, so much to see. I did watch the vet video also, which was cool seeing Dr Nancy and Farrier working together, plus Kimberly and Cory. Loved the paint adoption in beginning, what a gorgeous animal. So nice to see the group you rescued, no one in terrible pain, no bad eyes or blind ones, and extra time now with full time vet to take your time with each horse. Love Keith's laugh, Angela is always there to depend on and keep this moving in the right direction. Hope you are able to fill current openings so that more hands to help. Love You all !!

These are such noble creatures that do so much for us. Thank you for being there to let these animals know that not all people are horrible. The dignity that they get back with your whole group both in health and in the last act of kindness when needed is fabulous.

I think I know. Maybe these horses had loving owners who took good care of them and had them microchipped. Then the owners died, maybe of covid. Then the family members sold the horse to Mr. “ he seemed nice” and here they are at the turn-a-buck auction company.

Hi again ...so she worked made money and gave her all for her owners. In return they used her up and threw her away as garbage! Always unbelievable why! Vile heartless greedy owners that only saw her as a money maker. Heartfelt thank yous for loving her and showing her someone cared and did value her for being one of God's special creatures. Happy for you all this auction was a more reasonable one health wise and you all got to enjoy them all... God bless

Tawnee, I think you have the right thought process about euthanasia. I'll keep it in mind myself. It will make me feel so much better to know they're thinking about how good the grain tastes .......then it's over. I so appreciate the work you folks do.

Scoobys adopter needs to be schooled about the cost of rescuing animals. She was appalled by 300 dollars for a senior pet. These organizations are run by donations and 300 probably doesn’t cover the costs incurred for the rescue. I hope she does good by Scooby.

Happy this time was not to hard. I will never forget the paint horse that fell out of the trailer when arriving at the shelter a few months back. He or she was pts on the spot. So sad that the condition was to far gone to be healed. I cried for that horse.

I know auction day is always sad but I love watching it for some reason, seeing how bad condition people try and sell their hourses, seeing how many you save and give love and care, knowing you saved them from a terrible experience of going to slaughter. Poor Keith I've had a herniated disc with nerve root impingment for many years and it hurts like a b@#ch like you're getting stabbed in the spine. I hope he has more luck than me and his heals.

I auction will always be sad but seeing you guys happy and I. Good spirits about the 11 horses you got warmed my heart. I know auctions are hard emotionally so seeing you guys not so stressed and worried and sad was nice change in pace. Glad you where able to save as many as you did.

While I watched you with the Tennessee Walker, I thought everything you said just before you said it. People who show horses like that have to have adequate resources to do do better for them than dump them at an auction. It's the ultimate ingratitude and I'll never understand WHY !? That Jack surely will have a bright 🌞future considering the way he is steeling hearts 💕 left and right. Such an adorable 😍 character.
