Fears and cheers.: Tuku Morgan & Metiria Turei on the election result

Tuku Morgan and Metiria Turei believe the left have to work together better to have a real chance of winning in 2026. Tukoroirangi Morgan entered parliament in 1996 when NZ First took out the Māori seats then stood unsuccessfully for Mauri Pacific. He is a former President of Te Paati Māori. Metiria Turei was a co-leader of the Greens. She was in parliament for 15 years after initially standing for two other parties. Former National Party leader Simon Bridges was unable to make the interview.

We know. Kind of hypocritical, considering the majority unleashed the same anger 19 years ago. Maori have been angry since the Foreshore and Seabed, and Ngati Tuhoe's dawn raid. The majority caused those issues, and now it has returned. If this is not addressed, our descendants will hold us responsible, and it is not Maori that it will be aimed at. It will be aimed at the majority, and our young that are almost old enough to vote, already know whom to blame. That encounter between David and that 17 yr old girl during that press conference last week is a sign post. Every young person agrees with that girl, and his side has already lost them.@@mikevickers1391

Nz has always been divided into 2 groups, it's just that the majority of European NZers have ignored Maori culture until it was brought front and centre by recognition of treaty in the last 30 years. Learn about key Maori values like manaakitanga and whanaungatanga then you might understand why recognition of the treaty is important.

But Labour/Green/TPM were treading a fine line towards apartheid, openly exceplifying prejudice & some astounding ignorace towards economics and utilising the positives of capitalism. People were pushed to Nat, ACT & NZF out of necessity. The opposition parties definitely need to get their shit together, getting this obscene 'us vs them' mentality out of their ignorant heads.

Why can’t the Greens and Te Pāti Maori support the incoming government and the will of the majority of New Zealanders by rebuilding our storm damage. Repairing our economy and healing our country emotionally which has become divided. This us and them culture which you push will only lead us to separatism and conflict.

Most New Zealanders have just experienced 6 years of gloom and despair at the expense of minority groups. It didn't work. The more Maori politicians who adopt a political left ideology, I believe the more Maori will suffer. The great black professor of the United States Mr Thomas Sowell, has navigated the political history of America, and it's impact on Afro Americans. The Ideology of the Left has been devastating on Afro Americans and Thomas Sowell backs this up with evidence. I leave you with this, during the first lockdowns the Adern Government pushed through some of the most brutal abortion laws in the western world. Late term abortion legislation was passed, with parts of the legislation challenged. What was challenged?. There is more of a chance a baby is born alive during a late term abortion, and groups asked if that was the case, could the baby be given medical attention, and it was voted down, rejected. Reports came out of an instance where this happened in NZ, and the baby which was born alive, took 2 hours to pass away, with no medical assistance given. Staff in this hospital were devastated. Nothing Maori about that. As a proud New Zealander, Maori, I don't need a Government to tell me what to do or who I am, any government. I stand on my own ground and support my own community and people. I stand for what I believe is right in the shadow of my tipuna my ancestors, and if I think my tipuna wouldn't want a baby to suffer death at the hands of adults who have legislated for this to happen, then the people responsible, have blood on there hands. Dosen't matter what politcal party it is.

It’s time for Ngai Maori, enabled by their iwi, to support their people to achieve their aspirations, if they do this, then everyone in this country benefits. As an optimist, I would prefer that we humans support fellow humans synergistically in ways that also protect our environment from harm. I think this is the opportunity this election result has delivered. There are no perfect solutions out there so let’s be bold and do something different this time. Let’s fix the economy first, law and order, health, education, and our infrastructure and national resilience social systems. There is zero benefit if we become divided due to racist reductive reasoning as a society. Let’s instead lift our people up and create sustainable and viable socioeconomic systems enabled through the Treaty and its core tenets. We can do this if we stop bickering over crumbs and have mature and respectful conversations together. The realist in me, says…. Get real chap, you are being naive again……. It’s a nice dream, I truly hope this new generation of Parliamentarians will make my dream become a reality for my (and your) mokopuna 😊

If we are so racist how come we’ve over 90% intermarried. That proves love and respect. We need to appreciate our bi cultural roots. Māori stats have consistently improved from where they were pre colonisation and continue to do so. Europeans stats are declining rapidly from where they were especially among our young. We live in difficult times and division of resources by race will make things far worse and lead to civil unrest and war. Into the mix are all our valuable immigrant’s who came here for a better life. This is not a Māori/ European nation anymore if we want to keep our nation prosperous we can only do so together under our current one vote for all system that advantages each person regardless of race.
