Fear of Flying: Understanding "Safety Behaviours"
Фильм және анимация
Many patients with anxiety have inadvertently setup safety behaviours which unfortunately reinforce their fear-based avoidance behaviours. They are left with the paradox that they more they do their behaviours, the worse they’re becoming, not better. This video helps to explain safety behaviours, how they form and are maintained and what to do about it.

Sitting by the window, looking out the window and making sure there are no "bad" clouds, being able to see the ground, and for some reason, being above cities or settlements of people are all things that I look for to give me safety.
I've learned a lot of things from these videos, thank you. I have a flight coming up this week and in anticipation I am "calm", unlike how I have felt in the past after several flight it got worse, but now also preparing myself more correctly trying not to default into avoidance.
Your videos are very helpful for me to overcome my superstitious thoughts before my flight next week. Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much Mr Posen for yet another excellent video !👌

Same. How did u go
My safety behaviours usually start a day or so before the flight but they refer to anything and everything. For example, I have to fold something a certain way or the plane will crash or I can't eat that or I can't do that. It's exhausting and obsessive and I try to control it the best I can. Any advice on how to deal with these thoughts?

remind yourself that you are making that up mabye? do you usually believe in faith and destiny? if you don't than why do it before a flight? think about the fact that the more obsessed you'll get the worse the flight will be. you can find real information to attach your emotions too instead of your made up fears
I’m flying for the first time in 7 years in early Jan, absolutely terrified but going to force myself to do it. Any words of encouragement you can offer would be appreciated
