The fire started in the cellar, that means it will work it's way down through the house. They may need those guys "standing around".

@@TheNYCBuffThat’s a term used quite a bit in Chicago and its suburbs for a working fire, AKA 10-75.
The tree should be ashamed of yourself taking a pee out on in public LOL

Guess you have never been a firefighter. Wear a set of bunkers, heavy helmet, scba and pack around tools or a hose. Crawling around in an oven filled with smoke. Even on the coldest days you will roast. Summer is pretty much unbearable. By the time your air bottle runs out you will be looking to rehabilitate and stand around for a while as well.

Firefighting is proper coordination of operations and knowing where everybody is at all times. Every operation has to be directed by chiefs first. FDNY is the best staffed department in the country, so they will always have more than enough help on the fire ground.

@@colonelklink8175 Not everyone can live up to Hooterville. So, you can't really fault FDNY for that. FDNY has endless amounts of water supply, new vehicles and lots of manpower. Hooterville has just what water the bring with them in a 1982 GMC pumper and retired 1974 Mack milk truck. They were forced to learn to work with only 5 guys and hand me down turnout gear.
