Mr Binod Pradhan deserves much more credit for coming up with the visual language and his approach to camera and lighting than it’s mentioned here.

This whole interview is such a delight. I mustve watched it a thousand times. Everything from the insights given by Mr Chopra to the wonderful questions posed by the students to the bits of laughter from Jaggu and Anil and the pure childlike curiosity on Anurag's face, was simply a treat to watch.

This is a great video. This is the kind of film journalism we should be doing. Hats off. Just makes us respect these film makers so much more, makes us realize the hard work they put in.

It would also be great to have a blu-ray release of this classic movie. The dvd's quality doesn't do enough justice to this movie. It needs to be restored and watched in High definition. I know that I'm talking to the right person ;)

john mexx completely agree! it's disheartening to find these movies in bad resolution and poorly produced dvd's with lots of logo overlays. indian cinema deserves high resolution.

I first watched Parinda when I was in Class 5. I was blown away by the cinematography. This film looked so different from the other mainstream Hindi movies of that time. The cinematography in Parinda is very artistic, with great use of brown hues and light - particularly the low lighting that effectively brings out the atmosphere of Bombay's dark underbelly. And the background music in Parinda is never too loud or sentimental. Overall, there is a certain style and sophistication in the entire film that Indian audiences had never seen before. The acting is just top-notch, and Jackie's entry in the film still gives me goosebumps. The way he climbs the water tank, shouting "Moosa".... That scene is just epic!

I am so glad Film Companion is bringing about a discussion on films.. esp on path breaking films. though my only complaint is that there should be regular video uploads. So far I have loved all the episodes except the one with Hrithik Roshan, cause he seemed like he was äcting"more than discussing.I coudlnt sit through that episode. Also if you ever call writers on the show, please dont call Prasoon Joshi. :D He may be a good writer but he doesnt know when to stop.

During the 30 years VCF festival Mr Chopra mentioned that they were releasing a book on how these films were made. However that book has not been released yet (at least I couldn't find it anywhere). Could you please find out what is the progress of that book please? BTW thanks for these great videos. Vinod Chopra has had such an amazing life yet there is so little of him in the media. I wish he would release an autobiography or spend more time interviewing! Even these clips of 'Parinda' seem too short!

Love it but Anupama please you do it next along with Anurag , as I think u can bring a different flavor tot his and some more interesting topic in it and also a women prespective on it, I am still wondering what ur views are on noire film like parinda , the voilence and of course love making scene even though i agree with vidhu that no way that scene bought any whistle or vulgar thoughts in my mind.

Maverick efforts for sure but it had major script flaws. Some of the scenes are very flawed example anil kapoor going to the hotel to kill Moosa (actually trying to deceieve Nana and his men) etc. Some of the scenes are just too absurd. The movie could have been great but wasn't.
