Favorite numbers, mental calculation &job opportunities 🧮 |“Hot Seat” with mathematicians @DorFuchs

Ғылым және технология

Mathematicians used to always win the Math Olympics and are good at mental calculation? Are these prejudices true? That's what we wanted to find out in this “Hot Seat” episode. We put the scientists at TU Dresden to the test and found out which math clichés are true. We also meet the music-playing mathematician DorFuchs, who as Johann Beurich is a doctoral student at TU Dresden.
How do you discover new formulas? What is your favorite number? How many decimal places of pi can you recite? Why do so many people dislike math at school? Find out the answers in our video.

Hot Seat:
Each episode focuses on a different group of people who all have something in common - be it that they share the same workplace, same degree program, or same research area. We ask them questions from our community and do away with clichés and prejudices.
A degree in Math?
The scientific language of our time is the language of mathematics. It is indispensable for natural and engineering sciences, computer science, economics and social sciences. At TU Dresden, you can study mathematics at Bachelor's and Master's level (in English). During the first 3 semesters, you will acquire fundamental knowledge as an indispensable prerequisite for all forms of specialization in mathematics: Analysis, linear algebra, programming for mathematicians, ordinary differential equations and integration on manifolds, algebra, measure and integral, numerical mathematics and stochastics.

Ich kann Mathe selbst nicht viel abgewinnen, find's aber interessant, wie sympathisch die Menschen im Willi-Bau, abseits des Hörsaals doch sind. 😊 Schönes Video!
