He definitely studied at Cordoba, and always retained affection and admiration for that great city. I had never previously heard he had made it as far as Africa.

Her appearance is anyone's guess. The image used in the upload of course dates to many centuries after Fatima's life, and probably was never originally intended to represent her.
So she was 180° degree contrary to todays muslim women then !!

This is just a myth. The one who built the Qarawiyyin mosque, Daoud ibn Idrisi, during the reign of the Idrisids in Morocco in the 7th century
