Fathers and Sons - A Terminal List Story

This past December, my friend Michael Broderick surprised me with a very special short film he created based on the characters from my novels. Titled “Fathers and Sons - A Terminal List Story” it is a moving portrayal of two friends and teammates bonding over sacrifice, lost time, and whispers of redemption. Michael Broderick plays Thomas Reece, a Vietnam-era SEAL and CIA Case Officer, and the father of my protagonist, Navy SEAL Sniper James Reece. Tim Abell plays Del, Tom Reece’s BUD/S Instructor and Teammate. As an added bonus for me, I got to find out how Tom Reece gets the Echols Rifle he gives to his son. . . Fathers and Sons was recently submitted to the GI Film Festival in San Diego, a military film festival highlighting “the struggles, triumphs, and experiences of service members and veterans through compelling and authentic storytelling.”

MORE TOM AND DELL!!!! That loud enough Michael? Congratulations. This was amazing. Everyone did an amazing job. Maybe Jack needs to write a prequel series about Tom’s adventures (misadventures?). Again, congratulations. A great short film. One question? Who played the part of the Echols?

Hi, Hilary. Thanks for watching and for your comment. Actually, it’s neither. We made this film with a very small budget. A real Echols rifle was not an option. Actor Tim Abell (Del) brought one of his own hunting rifles from home for the shoot. I hope that clears things up. You have a good eye for detail, sir. 🫡
