Father suffers cardiac arrest during father-daughter dance at wedding
A Sarasota father suffered cardiac arrest while dancing with his daughter at her wedding. Emily Alvarez had just married the love of her life, Jayson, during a ceremony at Phillippi Estate Park in March of 2024. Alvarez said she practiced her father-daughter dance for months. On her wedding day, she started by dancing with her dad to Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses.

A cardiac arrest is a completely different event than a heart attack, although they can look the same, and they're treated differently differently. In short? Check for a pulse. If there's no pulse? the heart has stopped - and that is what's meant by this new term "sudden adult death syndrome." One day, I hope we'll be able to talk about why these tragedies are occurring.

I'm 61. I walked 4 miles this morning. I've walked ten times so far this summer. You have to train your heart, lungs, your body. You have to stress test your body. I think I have been fortunate with my health so far. No heart problems. No diabetes. That said, I drive a school bus and I sit a lot. That is one reason I make myself walk in the summer. I gain weight. I get stressed and I have to sit five days a week. After driving nine hours a day I just don't have the mental concentration to go out walking for an hour. And I'll be sleepy and hungry. All I want to do is eat and zone out after work. Anyway, you have to make time for training.

LOL, what do YOU really think??? LOOK AT HIM! He was a heart attack looking for a place to happen. SMFH.
Before I even opened this video but saw the title, I thought, I bet this happened during a “choreographed” dance….and I was right. There’s no doubt something about the stress of performing a choreographed routine in front of everyone, and the pressure to get it right and not to embarrass the daughter, that would have added to the father’s stress and increased the chances of the heart attack. It basically didn’t happen during a “swaying”/“normal” father daughter dance….so yes while health is a factor, certain circumstances can also set off health issues I think
Everybody should know CPR. I’m not sure why that isn’t taught in health classes across the nation (or world, for that matter), but I see that as a failure by our leaders.

I completely agree. I was educated in Poland, and I learned CPR in both primary and secondary education. I have no idea whether this is still in the curriculum, but definitely, all children everywhere should be trained in first aid. It's such a no-brainer, isn't it?
Wonderful!
He saw the Bill for the Wedding 😯 Glad he's okay

Great comment! My son just got married April 2024…next day his wife’s father had a heart attack…needing shunts. First thing she said to her dad was…”so…did you have a heart attack because you spent too much money…or because I married Chris..? ” Not a funny situation at all..but her humor was a way of softening a very very scary time.
So glad he's ok! ❤️🙏❤️
lucky lucky man and kudos to those who helped him wow amazing. heros
Sooo glad he is up and doing well!!
His heart just couldn't anymorewith giving his daughter away & then dancing on top of it on that day.

Nope, that was probably the most physical movement that man has done in his entire life. And obviously no nothing of dancing. However it is great he recovered.

🙏🙏thankful for all people helping❤❤
Best photographer ever!!!
Pretty sure your elite graphics team labeled the father the bride here. Maybe he's an emily, though, I could be wrong.

He’s an Emily and the bride and she’s the father and a Brad. Yeah someone goofed with this one.🤦🏼♀️

We should all learn to save lives. It makes for a better world.
Dang, he suffered a widow maker and is up and walking. Thank goodness it didn’t happen that evening when everyone has already left.
So glad he is ok! My father had the same and it was drilled into him to take the weight off.
Glad that the dad is well. Somebody check on the graphics person.
Thank you for an important message here and I'm so relieved the father is ok. Definite kudos to the guest and photographer for jumping right in to help. Glad the photographer bucked the trend to continue taking pictures or video.

So glad he's ok now!
Thank you for sharing. I am very thankful for the father. This also was a major wake up call.
Blessed!
He's lucky to be alive but it should be a warning to him to start losing weight and eating healthier.

Wow!! Happy to see he survived and is doing well.
My dad does not exercise or eat well. Ain't no way I'm gonna have my dad do crazy dancing on my wedding day. we're gonna slow dance like penguins. Glad he was okay though.

I honor my father by never making him dance in a hot suit to Taylor swift. I love him too much for that. 😂
See what happens when u step outside your comfort level Gets the heart going lol
Him standing there taking about it, made my morning.
So nobody at the production reviewed the video before posting it…
