    @@goldenhd9656 That was not a problem, its a deliberate choice, not an accident because they were too dumb, they want their parting to be painful and sad and increase the guilt Clark would feel, so they have him let his dad die after an argument where he says you aren't my real dad. The issue is the scene just doesn't feel plausible, people who like the emotion expressed in it see past that and defend it, while others just think its contrived, they wanted to set up a scene that means Clark would let his father die and be ridden with guilt and this was the choice they made to carry it out. Possibly they could have chosen a better way, but they didn't. Also, its a writing issue, changing the actor would not make the dialogue or story better.

    I think he misunderstood that. It shows that he still has yet to understand completely why his dad went away. Even if I knew my boy could lift school buses and see through walls. You think I'm letting him EVER set foot between me and a tornado? I'll go before he does. That's just how it is. Love, boys and girls. Love makes you do the damnedest of things. Reason takes a backseat in those moments.

    @@malcolmarworst thing you can do is leave things on a bad note with your father. My dad ghosted us when i was 19 and in college. Put the burden of man of the house on my shoulders leaving mom high and dry. He came back a few months later and tried to make amends.........i wasn't having any of it i had alot of hate and rage that still hasn't gone away completely after 21 years. So i ghosted him the last 3 years of his life.......then i get a call from my grandmother in wiaconsin after pulling a double and find out my old man died. Listened to his last few voicemails and they were of a broken old man after he was always a big tough guy growing up. TlDR tell youe old man whats on your mind.......tommorrow isn't a guarantee.

    Just finished saying you’re not my Dad. Realizes his mistake saying that and was about to apologize. Tornado comes along and takes his Dads life while he watches. All because his Dad didn’t want people to see his real power. Heart wrenching moment that is very emotional. This movie was so well done, one you’re glad they remade for todays timeline.

    @Into Infinity Oh for god's sake are you serious? Superman obviously COULD save his father from dying. His father told him not to save him so he could have a normal life. You realize that he actually almost had a normal life until Zod came and he surrendered. You notice how the only one to figure out about Superman's true identity was Lois? Maybe he should be ashamed that he let his father die, but it wasn't a stupid death at all. Seriously, you sound like a 9-year-old on the internet ranting about this death because you couldn't accept the fact that he died, you're on the fourth stage of grief, anger. Now accept it and move on.

    At this moment, Clark is just around 19 or 20. Didn't even know his full potential and power. For every dad, his child is precious and he didn't want any harm to his son. So he tried to save the dog on his own. This was a message to Clark from his father that no life is left unchecked. And to protect the people you love from any harm just like his father had done to save him knowing or unknowing that his son is indestructible. It doesn't matter he knew or not, he wouldn't let his child go near any tornado. For him, Clark is not Superman, he is his child. That is what a father would do. You would know if you are one.

    People misunderstand Jonathan's sacrifice here. It's NOT just about Clark revealing who he really is to a host of people and exposing his true nature to humanity (which is what would inevitably happen), but Jonathan wanted to give his son time to figure out who he is for himself...BEFORE letting the world know about him. Jonathan always knew that the type of man Clark chooses to become will define who HE is TO the world as he will be a force of irrevocable and undeniable change to the world. Jonathan was protecting Clark from humanity's worst impulses...their fear, suspicion, mistrust, doubt and possibly even their envy of his strength and abilities and desire to exploit this, or as is the case with Lex, their desire to maintain their supremacy and dominance such that they would seek to destroy anything they perceive as a threat to that. And in so doing, Jonathan was simultaneously protecting humanity from Clark becoming someone who would be defined by that fear, mistrust...exploitation etc. THIS was done far better in the Christopher Reeve Superman where Jonathan tells Clark...YOU are here for a reason, I don't know what that reason is or whose reason it is, but one thing I know is that it isn't to score more touchdowns.

    I've always thought that Jonathan told his son to stay with all the people (including his mom) under the overpass because if the worst happened Clark would be able to save the many instead of just the one. Especially as overpasses have a tendency to be dangerous in design when hit by twisters.

  • @victorpradha9946

    @victorpradha9946

    @@Fickji That's an interesting take, but this notion was not expressed at least in the non-verbal exchange between Jonathan and Clark. Jonathan waves off Clark as he seems ready to race towards his dad to try and save him. This would have been great moment for Jonathan to have whispered (and for Clark to hear): "Stay with your mother, and protect her and the others, even you can't be in two places at once."

    So... His father is kind of an idiot in this movie, making it hard to understand how Clark even grows up to be a relatively nice person. His dad literally berrates him for saving a bus full of children from sinking and tells him that he might have had to consider leaving them drown. What? His death is silly, too. First, his dad is a hypocrite for risking his life to go save a dog having told Clark to let children die. Second, Clark could and should have helped, both with and without superpowers. Nobody would have questioned a well built guy running fast to save his dad, and he had quite a bit of time too. Third, Jon giving up and just accepting his death when there was no reason to not try to run away was quite a hit to his intelligence. At the very least try to crawl. Finally, for Clark to let his dad die when he could have saved him without a doubt harms the character quite a bit. The reason why his dad is normally killed by a heart attack is to make Clark understand that there are people that he simply cannot save or help, regardless of all his powers, which grounds him as a character and humanizes him. Making it a grandiouse spectacle like this that could have been easily avoided lacks any nuance and robs Superman of that quality, making Snyder's version weaker as a result. The scene is bad, as is the entire movie. I understand liking it, but there's no denying that. As for why the hate, it comes down to a few things. It shits on the character, it harms everything that comes after it since it is such a weak base, its villain is retarded, the stakes are all over the place... It's also how there's people writing stuff like "There's a lot of people who can't appreciate how good this movie actually was." when they apparently haven't watched a movie critically in their life and just smiled and noded to whatever bullshit was put on their screen while labeled everyone who criticized it as hateful and ignorant.

    That rationalization insults the movie you're trying to defend. The whole point of the scene is that clark nd jonathan are making conscious moral choices not to intervene (or accept assistance). To try to handwave those choices away because you're embarrassed by them, to sweep the dilemma under the rug with the rationalization that "maybe he couldn't have saved his father anyway" is to strip the scene of its meaning. Better to just stop being a fan if the movie embarrasses you that much.

The point here was like his dad said the world is still not ready for him if he save him the truth will be revealed that the kid who save a bus before is the same person who save his dad in the tornado the government would clearly intervene and Clark's life and his mother would be miserable

    The action is overblown and actively harms the character of Clark by making destroy so much stuff that he could have avoided. The story is "deel and great"? How? This scene alone already does not make any darn sense.

  • @sir.chewie6089

    @@VladDascaliuc To me, i think it was great. It shows how human superman can be. His dad didn't agree to let kids die, he said "maybe", which means he is not SURE. He causes a little destruction, but it was not all his fault it was the world engine. He couldn't help his dad during the tornado because if he did. He would reveal himself to the world, which he was not ready for at the time. I loved this movie man but if u dont then thats fine.

  • @VladDascaliuc

    @VladDascaliuc

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@sir.chewie6089 Do you know why the usual way to kill Jonathan Kent is to have him have a heart attack or anything along those lines? It is because it shows how Clark simply cannot save everyone, no matter what powers he has. That realization is what grounds him and humanizes him, and is what inspires him to always be the best he can be. Having instead a grandious situation that he could have changed entirely robs him of that quality, proving how this version values his daily life more than the lives of inocents, making him a bit of a cunt. Though he would not have revealed himself anyway because of everything I explained to you, so he's kind of worse because he simply let his dad die for no reason, making him an alien in terms of character. As for the destruction he causes, he has no excuse. He destroyed several buildings by himself in fits of anger or simply because of carelesness and ends up getting a lot of people killed because of it. Being his first day is no reason for that. Imagine if I ran you over on my first day of driving and told you so. It's also very stupid that he goes first for the world engine that is in the middle of nowhere as opposed to taking down the one that's leveling a city as soon as possible. Finally, for his dad to answer "Maybe" to him asking if he should have let them die is straight up disgusting. You can't not be sure about that. Literal silence would be a better answer, as it at least does not half agree with letting children drown and would actually show his lack of knowledge on the situation better. Jonathan is a terrible dad. There is nothing "human" in there, other than Snyder's ego. And it's fine if you enjoyed it, but you're clearly not being critical of it to say that it's any good. It's simply not.

As Clark got older, he started to become a bit naive and wanted to feel like he could do more but his father pointed out that his family was farming for generations and Clark felt like it wasn’t enough and that he could do more so then he got upset. The whole purpose of the scene is to not make Clark feel guilty or feel like he could’ve done something to save his father. It's not really hard, if you're thoughtful about how people actually work and if you think about the ramifications of everyone's words and actions. If Jon can go in to rescue the dog without it looking weird, then so could Clark. All Clark had to do was pretend it wasn't very easy for him to do it, that's all. But no, Jon has to do it instead and get himself killed and leave his wife a widow and his son without a father for no good god damn reason except to make the movie dramatic. I get that this scene may seem really moving, but that only really works as long as you only think about the film the way the movie wants you to think about it. Try thinking practically for a moment and so many of the things Clark and others do in this film stop making any sense whatsoever. MCU movies can be downright ridiculous at times, but they at least make sure getting the story from points A to B to C doesn't require the viewer to turn their brain off.
