@harmonk8012 I happen to enjoy riding my motorcycle, I'm sure you think it's stupid bc you're too much of a 🐈 to ride one and thats okay! I can bet it was probably someone changing lanes without signaling or looking in their mirrors for a motorcylist. And as a motorcylist, our normal may not seem "wise" to a person who only drives a car. We understand the risks every time we get on our bikes and leave for the day.

40 is way too old to be riding like that. splitting lanes is legal in California, I used to do it when traffic was slow, but only like 10 MPH over the speed of traffic, and never when traffic was over 40 or so MPH.

A motorcycle flew by me at high speed weaving in and out of traffic and a few seconds later i saw all kinds of debris flying in the air ahead of me. The guy crashed and when i slowly passed by he was laying face down with his helmet on and people came to his aide. Hope you motorcycle riders see this and ride safe! Hopefully that guy made it.

I've been riding since 1970. The first things I learned were, respect the bike, NEVER split lanes and above all, assume that every car wants to kill you. 90% of all motorcycle accidents occur within the first 90 days of ownership. Either the rider is unfamiliar with the bike or he bought too big of a bike to learn on. Anything bigger than a 350 is too much bike for a rookie.

You play, you pay. I ride that section on my daily commute to Richmond everyday rain or shine. I split & filter everyday with flashers on. I ride as if I'm invisible too. Speed is relative to the vehicles around you. Doing 80 mph when the flow is 70, 75 mph is not that fast. Typically and depending on how early it was, the traffic is flowing no more than the limit, 65.

overcourse everyone who is not from CA or has no practical experience splitting lanes is going to blame this on the act of splitting itself. For this to even be a possibility while splitting lanes you had to have been splitting at an insanely high speed differential from surrounding traffic like him splitting at 80 while traffic was slowed at 40. At that point splitting lanes is the least of your problems. Same outcome would happen with you not actively splitting nd a car merging over if u r carrying that high of a differential. Split at a 10-15mph speed differential from surrounding traffic nd there is no reason you should be hitting nothing for it to kill u when traffic is moving the same direction, you should be able to avoid whatever is happening infront of you, if u cnt u r going too fast. Just awful riders and the news running with “splitting lanes” as the reason for this. If your bike can go 80mph with an appropriate speed differential from surrounding traffic then there is no traffic congestion to begin with nd therefore no reason to be splitting nd you can just effortlessly weave around traffic. Again poor choices from an awful rider
