I do wonder how young lads today can have an interest in trains. I was 13 in 1983 and christ almighty, every day was like the best heritage line diesel gala you could wish for. Now it is just shite.

Great video! Awesome noise - with them having dissapeared from Scotland and Northern England a good while ago I forgot how great the 'Grids' sound at full cry.

Always nice to hear them pull away from a standstill building up power! I used to run alongside them at Didcot, recording the sound!. I think they have different turbos fitted in them now as the scream is slightly less ear-piercing? Glad to hear there's still plenty of flailing going on :)

NICE 1 ! (Used to see these things on MGR's in the early 1980's or double headed 20's on MGR...) they were quite new then!

@CHESEABUN fastline have stopped due to recession. on monday 56312 is working the 4Z91 up the WCML. it goes through tonbridge at 12.40 Harrow & Wealdsstone ( near watford ) at 15.00

The engine in the 56 is actually an uprated version of the engine fitted in a class 50. The main differances being the turbo's, 2 bigger ones instead of 4 smaller turbo's and gear driven valve train components instead of the chain drive in a class 50's engine. Externally they look very similar. Nothing to do with a Paxman engine whatso ever guys!
