The train was soon declared a failure; however, it was nearly 24 hours before the train was authorised to set back to Ince Moss Junction, where the 15 loaded JNA wagons were split into two portions. These went forward as:

As ever superb image framing, no moving of the camera, let the scene show itself. So very enjoyable!

Best way. No wobble. Kyle's is some of the best stuff on KZread
I believe that hissing sound and smoke is from the sandbox system trowing sand on the wheels to get some adhesion. At 4:46 there are little sparks onder the front front right buffer which indicates wheelslip. why the driver is just applying full throttle for so long whitout any notice baffles me. I bet he burned the traction motors to.
As ever, brilliant footage from the man on the spot, Mr Law! I am completely baffled as to why this took so long to be recovered. Why wasn’t the Thunderbird from Crewe sent to assist? Leaving a train for 24 hours would never, ever have happened in BR days. And I speak as someone who had over forty-one years on the railway. Great footage Kyle!
Anyone else notice the sparks from the melting traction motors
Kyle lets the trains and environment speak for themselves. A simple formula crafted by the hands of a master.
Great catch! Super video! Big LIKE
Great catch, thus had just. One off the wheel lathe at Leeds Midland Road about a week before but no wonder it was sent back again for another visit to the lathe after this when it got back to Derby.
Its not good this happened but it gave you a chance to get excellent coverage at Bryn Station Kyle. Cheers Mike.
Excellent video
Why not reverse under the bridge may be dryer....nope we just sit spinning
I'd have that driver back in the classroom. No way on earth I'd behave like that, even after 49 years on the job! He'd be shown the door by us! Worse driving I've seen since D1015 a few years ago, slipping on one engine. JG.

I fully agree 100%!I have never seen such appaling driving in my 46 yrs on the footplate!just sat there on full power!total destruction!I would sack him on the spot?I gather the loco,is Still out of use!due to probs obtaining Wheelsets!
Great video.
That's why almost all freight trains in the states have more than one locomotive. Excellent catch and excellent video BTW...
You can almost smell the traction motor armature windings from here….
Unfortunate but great coverage 👍
Nice video I just saw this at my local station and I didn't know it was coming through it was not pulling anything either
Too much tonne in the boxes? Wheels slipping due to rain?
So there is still some old 56's still in use, I thought they were all scrapped way back. I used to see them passing through Manchester Victoria back in the late 80's where 31's used to bank them up the Miles Platting bank.
Well - it's different!
needs 103 back
Any idea what the problem was: Just lack of adhesion, or a loco fault? And what was all the smoke coming from the wheels? 🚂👍

Alot of smoke from the traction motors. Can see sparks dropping out the front.
Surely they could have had a loco spare to help give him a push. God the state of the railways nowadays

Not always easy, if there's a train behind then the "spare" loco can't get behind to assist. But if needed 1Z99 will run.
What was going on with the grid m8.
Well done driver...not. Ragged traction motors, possible railhead damaged and wheel sets shot. Declare a failure and leave it at that. On the other hand, good footage!
No worries. it will soon be updated to a 69...
