I used an felt tip pen with indelible ink to color the volume lines & the numbers for liters & gallons. Made it easier to read. If the factory did that, it would not be affordable to the hobbyist.

to fix the issue with the top fitting, take a look at the fastrack KZread page.... this was addressed in the fastferment video about doing wine from frozen juice concentrate....I believe.... if not it's in their assembly video

If it doesn’t seal it may be missing the rubber o’ring seal that is supposed to be in the lid

I thought the plastic ball was screwed into plastic collar that was screwed onto the valve. Then it was this collar that gets unscrewed from the valve, not the ball from the collar. In fact they mention that on their website?

Down here in OZ we use cling wrap and rubber bands to close our fermenters, no mucking about with grease and lids and airlocks. works perfectly, you know when your beer is done by the gravity readings not by the bubbles. remember we invented BIAB we are the masters of simplifying the beer making process and also drinking it ;)

you have to wait 5 hrs after you have made your wort before pitching your yeast?

The Fast Ferment is a nice system. I just don't have a space to put one if I was to use the wall mount option which in my opinion is much better than the stand mount.....Take care, Bluefin.

Hey I got this same fermentor but haven't used it yet. Unfortunately the temperature is too hot/humid where I am located but looking forward to lagering with it when I get another fridge. Is there a way to use the collection ball instead of a secondary fermentor to remove excess yeast/trub without introducing more O2?

Can I use that yeast trap ball on another (food grade) plastic conical fermenter?

  • @drebourbon7616

I guess you can sanitize and fill it with distilled water then put it back on.

Quick question. when you introduce a new ball for secondary, don't you introduce oxygen to your wort?

Not as much as you would if you were racking to a carboy. If it's a concern, just purge the ball with CO2 before replacing it.

Dre Bourbon wouldn't that depend on the type of wine you are making? I use a car brake line bleeder to pull co2 out of my white wine after clarification to ensure it is really dry! I.E. de-carb?

It has been suggested, and I did do it once, and will continue to do so, is to pre-fill the ball with sanitized water or boiled water before reinstalling it, that way very little transfer is done when the valve is reopened for the secondary. Any yeast or trub will still fall into the ball of water, but little to no air will be required to be sucked into the fermenter. Also, there is less loss of good wort into the ball as the ball holds like 24oz. ( a pint and a half loss, screw that).

When you're racking into the fermenter, could you have the collection ball already attached and valve open to prevent the air bubbling back into your beer? I just assume that'd be less aeration. Or would the initial racking into the conical, into the ball, cause unnecessary aeration anyway?

Since CO2 is heavier than air, air coming up at that stage should not be an issue because it will fully rise up and then when you pitch your yeast, the CO2 should actually create a barrier to the liquid once the fermentation starts, however when having it act as "secondary", I dont know how to prevent the air exposure as you readd the ball that you have emptied.

From my point of view a conical fermenter is a new way to part the average homebrewer from his money. Two brewing buckets costs £20 - a conical fermenter costs £80 minimum. And what does it do that two buckets can’t do? It removes SOME of the sediment whereas syphoning beer from one bucket to another leaves ALL the sediment behind. It saves you time??? Only if you don’t take the cleaning and sanitizing into the equation. I’m going to stick to buckets and tubing and spend my hard-earned money on INGREDIENTS not TOYS.

You okay buddy? Seems like you're a bit too passionate about other people's brewing preferences. I use both the fastferment and 'good old buckets', cause.. Well... I have both. Why not use them? I don't vent on the internet to strangers about it.
