    I like that way of doing spots. I agree with you on the top dressing being filled with all kinds of stuff. I found lots of rocks and bark in the top soil that was supposed to be screened. I have made 3 attempts to overseed 15 month old sod. My next try will be trying your way. Thanks for the tips.

    I learned this method from the legendary gardener Jerry Baker maybe 30 years ago.. Pre germinate in a bucket. Works great. I've tried to convince other people to do this but I'm met with skepticism and outright scoffing. So be it. I also do test pre germination of old flower seeds in packs. To see if they are viable before going to the trouble of planting them.

    @@kuroshmotamedian3521 Mosquitos love Iranians 😉 Very happy with it, I was sceptical when I got it, but it really does make a huge difference with the amount of mosquitos we have. How does creeping red deal with foot traffic?

  • @SamsLawn

    @SamsLawn

    It does OK but if you play soccer on it and kids play all the time then it struggles, that´s why I like to mix it with the Rye, since Rye handles traffic way better.

    Does it matter what way the pre germinated grass seed sits on the soil will the roots find the right way round so they grow downwards and the grass grows upwards? Id be worried the roots wouldn't take hold?!

  • @SamsLawn

    @SamsLawn

    16 күн бұрын

    Hey Mate, It is important to get them down to the soil and get as good seed to soil contact as you can, if you have space or air in between the roots will take, but they will be very fragile since you need to wait longer for it to get further down into the soil, (if that makes sense?)

    Why are you doing the creeping fescue, are you hoping it makes it better over the winter?

  • @SamsLawn

    @SamsLawn

    16 күн бұрын

    I felt like a monostand was a bit risky in the end. Other species have better resistance to other things, so I felt like it would be best for the lawn to spread the risk so to say. Also yes, I am hoping it will cope with the winter here a bit better. But even though everyone says to me that the lawn is dying ONLY because of the rye, I am not convinced, I think there are more reasons than just that. So also a way to experiment and see if that´s true :)

  • @StefanKolev-oh5hz

    @StefanKolev-oh5hz

    16 күн бұрын

    @@SamsLawn I see, the lawn is nit dying because if the ryegrass. I have ryegrass, fescue and kbg all mixed and I lose some of it every winter because of snow mold. Kbg seems to be the most resistant to it but I still lose some of it too. I have some bent grass that seems to be unaffected from the snow mold, I ve been trying to get rid of it with tenacity because it stands out. It loves to be cut low like under an inch but it also likes water and fertilizer, anyway your grass is looking great again.

    is it better than pre germination? then, why?

  • @SamsLawn

    @SamsLawn

    16 күн бұрын

    This method is hand down the best method for smaller areas I would say. If you are doing a full overseeding of the entire lawn then you would need a ton of soil to put seeds it. So in that case just pre-germinating in water is better.
