Stumbled upon this video by chance, I'm one of the players in this game (you can probably tell which one based off my username). To be honest, I don't know who these opponents were that Bam and I were playing and I have no recollection of this game, but everything in this replay makes sense and I can probably explain most of it. First, there's A LOT of comments on here that make me chuckle. There's an entire meta and tons of hours of playing this map that people don't realize dictate the decision making. This match was what's called PRvPR in the fastest community (Protoss/Random vs Protoss/Random). If it was up to me, everyone would simply pick their own race. What happened on fastest is people realized that Protoss has an early game advantage; with how fast resources come in, a Zerg or Terran player is not going to be able to keep up with how strong Protoss zealots are early game. You can dictate a lot of how the game goes by controlling the map with your army and being a threat to attack at any point. For a long time, it was assumed in 2v2s on fastest that players would pick their own race. This usually ended up in a PPvPP matchup. Some people got bored of this, others literally realized they weren't good at PPvPP and started demanding PRvPR or they'd refuse to play (let's flip a coin and hope for an imbalanced matchup in my favor, hooray!) The team that gets PZ on fastest is in huge trouble. You have no ability to control the map and fight back with units. The meta became that you'd either essentially all in and do an aggressive rush (usually in the form of a cannon and ling rush) or you'd go static defense, try to draw the game out while you teched up, and hope your opponent would eventually make a mistake over the long run. Bam and I personally hated hinging the result of the game on an all in rush, hence why we both choked and built defense. The reason Bam spreads his sunkens out is because he knows he will get tank pushed - he's trying to create more time by forcing the Terran to push. I obviously can't help him cause I'm choked in, so he's preparing accordingly. I'll be critical of myself this game. Ideally, I would be pushing my choke where they had me blocked. I probably stopped because I had a combination of too many probes and reavers that were taking too much supply, and I simply wasn't going to break a bunch of tanks and cannons with ground units. It was not atypical for me to commit to killing 1 person's economy and trying to create a 2v1 scenario, which we saw in this game. I'll give myself a C+ for this game - I accomplished my goal and did push out and take back the middle at the very end when the Protoss disconnected, but I should have been faster about it and more committed to helping Bam (specifically, probes in his base to build cannons for him and re-take the choke point at the entrance of his base). If people have specific questions about why things were done, I will try to answer honestly (I miss talking/thinking about fastest 2v2 meta!) I don't have Starcraft replays anymore which is unfortunate, because if I knew somebody gave a shit there's a lot of games that are much, much more exciting than this. For the individuals criticizing, you probably could get on the level of the people in this game at fastest if you decided to and committed to it, I'm not going to act like myself or the people in this game were at a level that others couldn't achieve. However, unless you played a shitload of SC, you would have lost to probably either team in this game. A good Korean player can pick up fastest very quick, but even they are going to take their lumps early on because they don't know the meta. If I wanted to just mass an army and tech to templar drops, I could do that incredibly efficiently, but I'm not going to do that when I know how this matchup plays out and that my Zerg ally is not going to be able build enough hydras to help when I get 2v1'd. These situations were played out over and over again and an entire meta was developed. I don't want to build static D at my entrance and play this way, but I've played as PZ enough on fastest to know I don't have many other options. There are some flagrantly foolish comments on this video that I will admit bother me, but I don't think it's worth trying to explain what's going on to individuals who aren't even keen enough to realize this wasn't played on Brood War.

Mentioning that this was on classic and not brood war makes me curious the differences in the meta, because as far as I know everyone plays BW, so it’s not like you can find much. Thanks for the extra context though!

Also, its nice to see the team games because I used to play a lot of Fastest Map and 3v3 Zero Clutter way back in the day. I look forward every week to the BW casts. Could you possibly find a 3v3 Zero Clutter replay from the 2000's? I would really like to see you cast a game from an OLD Meta because that's what I grew up on. Thx bud!

When I used to play these types of maps I would always choose Protoss even tho it wasn't my main race.. You gotta mind control one of your partners workers and start building in one of the empty spots. No one scouts in these types of games. Your bank is always huge and you can easily fund an extra 200 supply, not to mention the benefit of having your own tanks or crack lings supporting your main fully upgraded Protoss army is invaluable.

Damn you, this was one of my secret strategies. Well, you should, if possible, mind control the workers of both terrans and zergs, and use the best of their units and buildings for defending your main base and supporting your attack group. One example is, using defense matrix ability from the science vessel units on protoss reavers, and then dropping them on a enemy base. They are robotic units so queens can't use the broodling ability like they would on a siege tank to kill them instantly. Not perfect but better than letting them die quickly.

for 2v2 the simplest combo is to essentially play M&Ms with zerg units instead of marines. protoss can do the worker thing but that's nowhere near as powerful when it's not on a map like this, zerg has a lot of good unit synergy but no big combos with protoss. a good rule of thumb in joint armies is to pick units that work at different ranges and/or move at different speeds: they tie eachother up a lot less and naturally saturate the available area...not sure whether or not that's worth not taking a range upgrade though, those are pretty damn important and it's been way to long since I've played to remember the little ways in which co-op goes wrong (or right). once you get past the point of forgetting to make stuff *so* much of starcraft is just plain making it harder for the other guy to play the game effectively, if your units take less attention and/or force more attention you are usually going to win unless they are a horrible matchup for the other person's units or they just plain play literally twice as well as you.

I love that you mentioned the radio style commentary because that is actually what I do, I listen and play on Playstation at the same time

I remember being a recipient of those storm drops. Not fun at all and can totally make you GG out of the game. AV is Allied Victory I believe.

You keep seeming confused in these replays about the storm drop kill numbers. Just look at the supply before and after. They get about 50 kills on average.

the nuke you were looking for at 21st minute was a defensive one, dot was right on the reavers.

This was like the perfect opportunity to mass carriers. Like.. why..

I noticed this video is 4 years old, but I don't care. I love watching your videos, you have such a fun interpretation and calm voice, and the most important is - you don't shout so we can watch your videos in bed :) In some situations, you lack really just a bit of awareness and when you notice, you don't rewind, but should (not referring to this vid exactly). You borrow a ling next to a gas in another base so when you get dropped you can run them away

I notice while many players apm is much higher than mine I still crush them. I think they are just spamming microactions. For geno shuttles should have been full of reevers and templar squezzzing them in between the goons not aimlessly losing them also protoss arbitors and recall for reinforcements if he would have set recall on his gateways, at the 12 minute mark protoss should have used mind control on his buddy and had unlimited resources to build a mega mech army or mass zerg with 10 workers. I salute you falcon paladin you're the best also I'm a big fan of broadwar fastest.

Why cant i find this map?

I feel like arbiters with cloaked army can destroy those sunkens easily. Just add goliaths/wraiths/corsairs and observers for overlords and observers. 9:52

I’m confused why team south didn’t go for a group or two of wraiths or scouts. Not only does it help counter the drops and recalls, it is great against the sunk/guardian.

At like 9mins they all but 1 have under 1000 mins, in my memory, fastest maps were like by 3 mins (I'm guessing, but def early) you had more minerals than you could spend, I'd go 10-20 barracks, starport, stargate, hatchs, or gateways..max out, throw it away and max again, first to slip lost. Waited for more workers to build more stuff more than minerals... im sure my memory is off, lol but this was my game nd I don't Remember worrying bout minerals after a point like 5 figures most the game

Zerg should just spam hydras to be honest, good against air drops and treade well against most units. Lurkers are also very nice if you have a good economy. Good Meat Shield for protos with carriers

Go to Battle.net, probably US West or Korea, and find a FME game on Styler. If you join the game, it'll automatically download the map into your Downloads folder.

Possibly, but I've never had that happen. And since the vessel has a good casting range usually its barely being hit by defenses. Works good on terran too

I assume av = allied victory, it's when everyone allies and the game ends with everyone winning. Courtesy due to someone dropping due to internet connection issues. Looks like they didn't agree though.

I rarely see anyone using hallucinations, why is that? Is the 75mana storm always better than 100mana hallucination out of High Templar?

you get more utility out of storm, hallucinations is pretty expensive considering the very limited value you get from a hallucination. The only time hallucination is ever viable is to cover an arbiter for a recall and even then it's rarely used.

Is hallucinating your own drop ships in order to get past the missile turrets a waste of mp?

Brings back memories of playing fastest map possible & nothing else the first year I played SC as a kid 😂. Then I realized this was not the actual game. Most players who play this don’t really know what spell casters do besides storm. So they just ignore the science vessel spells b/c they can recklessly throw away units with unlimited income 😂🤦‍♂️😂.

That zerg player was trash. I was never any good at normal maps, so fastest maps were my game of choice. No defiler mound, no lurkers, and not nearly enough hatcheries. What a bum and got carried by his teammate. Would've been cool to see the 2 toss players duke out at the end.

I agree with you. What a pain to watch this guy plays zerg. Brown only has dragoons, all he needs to do is hatch a dozen of lukers and zerglings + some defilers at the way in, but seems like he doesnt know how to deal with it

Terran could have finished this faster with nuking and emping the nexus of red protoss. They play hard way with excluding any of intuitive thinking.
