I LOVE my '12 Golf R 2-door, loaded, 6MT and plan on keeping it forever! Mine is a properly prepared Stage 2 and I take it to the track often and love to harass my Porsche Club friends who just can't believe a "Golf" is so fast. They get really annoyed watching my taillights disappear on the straights though they usually catch up in the corners. Can't fight physics. Too bad VW decided to abandon their purist base and discontinue 2-door cars. They lost me as a customer after 40 years. Great video!

lmao muh "purist" 2 door econobox. A purist sports car driver does not buy a hatchback, no matter how many doors it has. I say this as a Golf 7 R REVO 3 owner lol. This is not some purpose built sports car, even if you throw 20 bolt-ons onto it and make it some "sleek" two door version. It's a fucking hatchback and thus can't be "purist" in any way shape or form because the fundamental chassis type is built for space. It's a compromise by definition. You buy hothatch because you want to be fast while still moving 4 people with luggage/groceries around. If you want a "purist" 2 door car, buy a fucking sports car lol.

@@ZenzDeluxe By your use of deliberately misspelled words, misused grammar and unnecessary use of foul language to convey tone I can tell you are a Millennial or, most likely, a Snowflake. I will use small words and be direct. I never claimed the Golf R is a sports car, only that "...VW decided to abandon their purist base..." which was started with the 2-door, 3-pedal Mk1 GTI. VW made the GTI in only 2-door, 3-pedal configuration to appeal to purists through the early Mk4 cars. The GTI always had more horsepower than a golf, a more performance oriented suspension and upgraded interior. The GTI VR6 was the last purist GTI because they were exclusively 2-door, 3-pedal configurations in the US market. I've owned several GTIs starting with my first, a new 1991 8V with dual rounds and all 3 factory options that I modified with sway bars and strut trusses front and back. My last GTI was one of the very first Mk4 GTI VR6s (or GLX to be precise) to arrive on our shores and the first GTI I took to the track. I only did minor upgrades to the suspension and just enjoyed the silky smooth mighty VR6. Mk4 R32's were exclusively 2-door, 3-pedal cars and when they built Mk5 R32's with DSGs (Doppelkupplungsgetriebe auf Deutsche, dual clutch in English) only VW dealers had unsold inventory in North America as late as 2010, a full 2 years after they arrived; not a successful decision that greatly damaged the credibility of an otherwise brilliant car. That poor decision meant only the concerted efforts of many US purists writing letters and signing online petitions begging VW for the next generation R successfully caused VW to reconsider their decision to not bring the MK 6 R to our shores. A 4-door car has always been considered a "grocery getter" as they appealed to families and people in business. If you were a purist you bought a GTI; if you needed a grocery getter you bought a Jetta GLI. This made both groups happy and sales steady. 4-door cars are for people who are satisfied with compromise and mediocrity on some level, be it financial or situational. Accept that, embrace it, it will make you feel better about yourself and perhaps reduce or eliminate you being triggered by others who don't have to or won't compromise and reduce or stop your immature and nasty attacks on people you don't know. As a matter of fact I DO own a pure sports car, a vintage 911. Had you read what I wrote you would have had a good indication that I own a Porsche in the second sentence: "...track often and love to harass my Porsche Club friends... " My 1965 911 has a 2.7L RS spec engine, 901 dogleg transmission, Weltmeister fully adjustable suspension, Big Brembo Boxster S front brakes, Swayaways, a cage, Corbeau seats, TeamTech belts and much more and was professionally built by a very experienced and talented, Porsche trained mechanic who also races. It weighs 1,800#s and the biggest tires I can get under the properly rolled, original fenders are 205/50's. It's a gorilla on stilettos with homicidal tendencies that suffers no fools and will quickly separate those who can drive from those who can't in an often violent way. This is the most difficult car I've ever driven while at the same time it is the most challenging and thoroughly enjoyable car as well. Mastering throttle steer and trail braking through a corner successfully and at speed without ending up swapping ends - or worse - is simply euphoric and quite addictive. It was my track rat for many years until the value skyrocketed and I retired it from track use but still used it for occasional PCA autocross events. It was an original, numbers matching, never wrecked, rust free example with less than 92,000 miles when I bought it 35 years ago and fun to drive even back then. It wasn't worth much when I converted in 2000 and was a very solid platform to build a proper beast with an eye to racing. It's street legal but very uncomfortable so I'm planning a complete, professional restoration back to original. I suspect you are ignorant regarding very early, SWB (short wheel base) 911's so I'll give you a little education on them. They have a well deserved reputation as being very difficult to drive because, quite simply, they are. The handling is very challenging and changes as the fuel level decreases. Stock they're a little mental, modified like mine they become homicidal psychopaths bent on making even the smallest mistake painful. If you wish to see how skilled SWB racers are watch the pre '65 911 races at Goodwood kzread.info/dash/bejne/dWyDuKugisS6pco.html These racers want a challenging car and have mastered the art of the slide. Until recently I owned a Cayman S. While I enjoyed the Cayman S for over 7 years I found it to be a bit boring on the track because it was just too easy to drive fast laps. It did everything right and was quite forgiving of mistakes thanks to a mid-engine that gave it a 50/50 weight distribution, very wide tires, and great brakes. I found my R much more challenging so it became my primary track day ride. I've owned both air and water cooled Porsches and at one point had 3, which wasn't practical when the snow piled up and I had to get to work. I've also earned my competition license and raced a vintage formula vee for several years. While not particularly fast, it's challenging racing because we all have the same size engines and are equally matched; the race is up to what's between the seat and the steering wheel. I've worked hard, sacrificed and put many, many hours on the track improving what's between the seat and the steering wheel rather than buying speed and fast laps. I suspect I've owned my 911 longer than you've been alive and have forgotten more than you know. So grow up, take the time to read or listen to what other's are saying and learn to stop being triggered, it makes you look like a immature, childish and a moron. Enjoy your grocery getter, it's a great car and very tunable but recognize and accept that it's not a true purist car because of the 2 rear doors.
