Fastest DJI Mini 2 in the World - Storm Eunice Speed Test

Фильм және анимация

I take my DJI Mini 2 out in Storm Eunice and fly faster than 100 mph 😲💨
The Mini 2 was operating in Atti mode for this test, near Barbury Castle in Wiltshire, UK.
Drone Hacks website: drone-hacks.com/
Below are the steps I used for adding Atti Mode to the DJI Mini 2:
01: Register and buy you unlock license at Drone Hacks (optional)
02: Download the Windows 10 (or Mac) Drone Hacks software
03: Install and run it, enter your email and password
04: Get a USB C cable connected to your PC
05: Power on your Mini 2, as soon as it beeps, plug the USB C lead into the drone
06: If OK, it will say there is an available license to use, do you wish to apply it, select OK
07: Apply both Hacks on the Hacking tab, follow the instructions.
08: At this point I would perform a test flight, and make sure the hack has taken
09: Then, back in the tool with the Mini 2 connected, select the Hack Parameters tab
10: Then select the Advanced Parameters button
11: Search for ‘mode’, there should be 3 similar Flight switch position parameters …
- fswitch_selection|g_config_control_control_mode[0] = Tripod : factory value = 12 (Tripod)
- fswitch_selection|g_config_control_control_mode[1] = Sport: factory value = 8 (Sport)
- fswitch_selection|g_config_control_control_mode[2] Position (GPS): factory value =7 (Position)
12: Change Tripod value from 12 to 3, as 3 = Attitude Mode
13: Save and then select Write Parameters to Drone (or something like that).
For Steps 1-7, thats the basic applying of the Drone Hack, they have YT videos on the Drone Hacks website showing you how to do that. Very helpful.

@@LamboPhoto My first drone, Mavic Air, did what I claimed was a flyaway into Lake Michigan in April of 2020 and I had nothing to return. We uploaded the flight data and they decided it was user error. I bought a new drone, kept the old controller, had two Care Refresh repairs. All together 4 Mavic Airs, one controller. Continual connection issues. I almost gave up on DJI but the Care Refresh experiences were good and the Mini 2 looked good and was the right price if I were to lose it so I took a chance. Although I love the Mini 2, I am excited about the Mini 3 chatter and the hope of a better camera but I won't upgrade for 4k 60fps alone.

@@LamboPhoto I am deaf so going by the subtitles, you appear to refer to the drone being in ATTI mode, have you hacked the firmware to get that? If not, how are you putting it in ATTI mode? Perhaps, for clarity, you could state the cost of the additional "flyaway" coverage above and beyond the cost of the normal "care refresh" coverage, or the cost the flyaway coverage if care refresh is now included in 'flyaway' coverage. Perhaps you could state the cost of the "excess" for a flyaway claim. I can not, at the moment, find quotes in UK £ but in US $ care refreash for the mini 2 is $49 whilst the flyaway insurance is $225 and then there is the excess to be added to that. Just as a matter of interest did you realistically think there was the tiniest bit of hope that any drone could have fought that storm successfully? How do you enter atti mode? Only way I know how to do this is to tinfoil the top of it. Is this a dronehacks thing? Great video haha

Damn. I didnt think it would be that easy to lose a drone on land. Especially since it reconnected, it shouldve lead you right to it. I wonder how it didnt since the gps isnt that inaccurate that it would no where near where it said it was, especially if it would descend upon losing connection. Im sure the wind blew it all over the place when it tried to land but even still So in the video, it looked like you tried to turn the drone around and go upwind? Mightve been better to just land it and go track it down At least the mini 2 isnt too expensive. Probably going down in price too since even my mini 3 is way down in price now

@@LamboPhoto in all seriousness. i grew up in the uk ( surrey, sussex, south London) but now live in America . the mini 2 is around $200 cheaper here in the us than the uk after you do the conversion. it’s the best “toy” i’ve ever had and so much fun to use.. i wonder why it is so much more expensive in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

You are a brave man but what did you expect in Storm Eunice? Mavic Mini 2 top speed is 35.7mph so in any wind stronger than that you are going to lose it. Your Mini recorded 100mph but that's ground speed not airspeed. The Mini2 flys at max 35.7 airspeed no matter what the wind is doing. Think paraglider, in stll wind it will have an airspeed and groundspeed of around 20mph. If flying into 20mph head wind it's still travelling throug air at 20mph but groundspeed is zero. If it turns 180degress and flys down wind it's still travelling through air at 20mph but ground speed is 40mph. Your mini had 100mph ground speed, was flying THROUGH air at 35.7mph in a parcel of wind that was moving downwind from you over land at around 65mph. You could throw your mini into the air without starting the motors in a 65mph wind but it wouldn't be flying it would be being blown away! Loved your video though. Best wishes.

I'm glad you liked the vid. I guess you haven't seen any of my previous speed tests, where I flew in several other storms, up to 90 mph ... and landed fine 😉 I do this kind of thing regularly with all my kit, "stress testing", including all my drones. The Mini 2 is fixed at 35.7 mph due to it's GPS positioning. But with that disabled, you fly at the hardware's max capacity - without wind, that's around 53mph. Atti mode is your friend here 😉👍
