Laser cutting vinyl records has the potential to release poisonous fumes into the area. A word of caution.

Yeah, Was just going to chime in on that, Vinyl is one of the "NEVER CUT THIS" materials with a laser! The gas it makes (Hydrogen Chloride) Turns into HYDROCHLORIC ACID when it mixes with moisture in the air. Breathing this in is like breathing in Chlorine Gas, and the acid *destroys* the laser and everything around it. PVC does the same thing! Never ever ever do this!

I guess I forgot in my safety disclosure to mention proper ventilation and respiration when necessary, but thank you for commenting for those that don’t know. I did take proper safety measures, doing it in a garage with the door open and box fan blowing, also with an smoke purifier pointed directly at the laser, and wearing a mask. I didn’t realize it can damage the laser. So far it hasn’t had any I’ll effects on the laser, perhaps because of all my precautions.

@@GunsandGuitars Please look up the proper safety measures for this, because even full air evac and filter systems end up with damaged machines. 30k Epilog machines completely ruined, etc. Not to mention that 40ppm of this gas can kill you. Venting it straight into the atmosphere is super harmful to local wildlife.

@@GunsandGuitars The fumes produced by lasering plastics (like vinyl) with a laser include chlorine gas, which is poisonous and can be apulmonary irritant that can cause severe damage to the respiratory tract.

I am 73 and started programing with paper tape and light readers . I had a precision sheet metal shop for 36 years and my cheapest cnc machine was $18,000 but most $100,000 or more, big heavy machines . This small cheap stuff is so cool even though I'm retired I might have to get me one and a 3d printer. Thanks for the info

Hey Dan, don't buy a clock just for the guts. You can get the "guts" from hobby stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby or whatever store is nearby. Walmart might even have them. Just a thought.

Very interesting, and I'm starting to think very seriously about something CNC related. It seems at some level having both a laser and a regular router style CNC makes sense for doing the kind of stuff you do, and what I'd like to do. And turning it into an opportunity to make money could be very helpful these days.

I got a cnc and laser. then later got a laser stand alone just for fun. Never planed to make money with them. Without advertising I have paid for all of my tools several times over. I live near an Airforce base and I get tons of calls for retirement, promotion and change of command plaques. and its just fun to do.

Right now the discount codes done work because the Black Friday/cyber week deals (which are a much better price). The coupon codes will work after dec 1st and to my knowledge should work for all countries

One thing I wish this rig did have was an extension kit like the XTool. I want to use it to cut shadowing foam for my toolbox, but the work area is smaller than some of my drawer dimensions.

This one would be extremely easy to extend. No kit required. Just a couple longer extrusions and extend the wires. Done.

@@GunsandGuitars that's what I'm banking on, they're on order. I am somewhat worried that I'll extend it and the firmware will freak out, but maybe I'm just paranoid...lol. I just don't know how involved the firmware is with the work field dimensions.

I wouldn’t recommend trying that.

Another comment already said this, but do not cut or engrave vinyl. Research it and what it releases and how bad it is.

hi Dan , is it better against Ortur Laser which you also have? in terms of building fretboards? this one has 10w while ortur only have 5w

If you want to make fretboards you’ll want the 10w
