⚡⚡ Show Notes & Resources ⚡⚡
Warm compresses are used as a dry eye treatment early on for the management of evaporative dry eye disease, often as a result of Meibomian gland dysfunction. Warm compresses (also known as hot compresses) are used to melt rancid, solidified oils trapped in the eyelids. This allows for the oils to run smoothly out of the oil glands and allow for new oils to be produced.

The best way to express the eye is after a warm compress is by instilling eye drops of a better quality such as Hi -lo or I-Drop brand. It allows you to massage downward to a slippery eye lid and gently run your finger down the eye lid with out the skin resistance of tugging and sticking.

I suffer from MGD and the warm compress was the cure (I use an electrically powered one from amazon and it does the trick just fine). Having suffered from flare ups of very sore and swollen blocked glands (where most people thought I had an infection or stye) this was an incredible break through and help. I do it every day for 30 mins straight whilst I meditate and it keeps the glands clear but if I miss it for a week or so the glands block up again so it highlights the importance of staying consistent with it. I do suffer from dry eyes still, especially in the winter, so I'm continuously working on that, but delighted that I don't get the huge swollen glands now. P.S before I discovered the root cause by investigating myself I went to an optician and doctor multiple times and they were little to no use. In a nutshell, they said 'you have to live with it'. Don't lose hope people and research these problems yourself too.

I often tell patients, if they don't want to buy anything, just put uncooked rice into a clean sock and put that into the microwave. It holds heat very well. Just be careful with the temperature. And the rice should be changed out periodically.

I needed this video so badly. My ophthalmologist didn't go over any of this with me. He only handed me a sheet describing my condition.

I use Thermal On compress while doing a ten minute guided meditation every morning. My eyes are still sore at night so maybe I need to do it longer or try one of your other suggested products.

I would like to do some research for surgery and non surgical options for women with droopy eye lids? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

After trying lots of options to get rid of a stye for over a week, I finally went to the doctor. He prescribed Clorsig, but also said a warm compress would be a good option. What he didn’t explain was how to do that. I naturally used a warm wet washcloth. Thank you for explaining that isn’t the best option. I have no idea why your video popped up on my feed other than my phone has been ‘listening’ to me, which is scary. I didn’t google anything about my eyes recently. Hmmm…

I cover my Bruder mask with a handkerchief so I can keep it clean. We can use a small soft cooler and heat two Bruder masks and use one and keep one in the soft pack so we can get 15 minutes.

I do mine in my shower every night, but I can't stay in the shower for 30 mins...:-). I've been doing it for several months now, and it's great, I don't have to pull my lids open every morning. I used the type of compress with dry heat, and wound up with a huge headache around my sinus'. The wash cloth works for me now. Thanks for all of your good info.

Try washing your eyelids with diluted baby shampoo as well. Works wonders.

What is your opinion for using hot compresses on patients with ocular rosacea?

I was told by my doctor to do wet compress or moist heat than dry compress that works for everyone.. I think it is a good idea to put peppermint essential oil and theives oil to water. You can do steaming for longer time and you could also use drops of artificial eye drops as lubricant for dry eye before you sleep. My stye was recurring so this Doctor suggested I do this and it was completely gone. Do four times antibacterial TOBROMYCIN drops and four times moist compress in a day

Thank u so much for all the information. My eye doctor recommended and sold me Bruder eye compress moist heat. I did it for a while but the material it is made of, gave my eyes sensitivity. So i stopped using it. I am very sensitive for allergies. Which brand would u recommend in this case ? Thanks a lot
