Fast ROI Solar Installation

Ойын-сауық

Simple, but very economical grid-tied solar installation. This system is grid-tie only. It uses SolarEdge Inverter with optimizers on each solar panel. Some panels face different azimuths (East, South, and West) and have different angles. An array like this requires a way to optimize each panel independently. The choice came down to SolarEdge or Enphase.
The goal of this project was the most economical, fastest ROI. That stands for return on investment. This was a professionally engineered, and installed, system. The owner decided not to install batteries. There is no backup system at this house. If the grid goes down, the solar goes down. The owner felt comfortable with this decision because the grid is extremely reliable in this location.
SolarEdge uses a single string inverter (10kW in this case) for the array. Each solar panel has an "Optimizer" linked to it. This optimizer does a few things. First, it complies with rapid shut-down requirements. Second, it allows for MPPT of each solar panel (Maximum power point tracking). Third, it allows monitoring of each solar panel. The MPPT on each panel was needed for this installation since the array is split into smaller pieces with different angles and azimuths.

    This is what I have in a 10KW 34 panel ground mount system. Love it. In 4 years it has produced over 43 MWH.

    I installed my own Enphase system and have been very happy with it. It's about a 6.5 year simple economic return on investment.

    I did my own 11.600 kw system 4 years ago using solar edge inverter. I have now had 3 new 10,000 kw HD inverter replacements. They swap them out with no problem, but the several weeks of down time sux. Also, it's covered under warrantee, except the change out and lack of production. When the warrantee (12 years) comes to an end, I will be looking elseware and in those 4 years I see better products out there providing back up power at the same price point. My payback doing it myself was 5.8 year. It cost me $1.00 per kw, including the government rebate and an electrician changing my service panel to a 200 amp with generator backup and stuff. My duke energy bill for connection fee has increased from $8.32 to now $35 minimum bill, but at the same time electric rates have gone up so I can't say how payback has changed.

    Fun to see David, neat set up for sure. Say, in one of your vids I saw you show a straight blade screwdriver with a Phillips in the middle made just for the terminal screws on most equipment. I've been trying to find that and no luck. What would the name be for that screwdriver style? Thanks

    If you are doing a grid tied system and especially with no battery backup Trust me you will regret it! Grid assist is the only way to go. Use your grid tie as your backup. Set your house to be free from corporate greed and the future of our country. The grid cannot handle what is about to happen! They do not have the infrastructure for all the EVs etc that are hitting the market.

    typo at [2:07] 240vac 2p? I believe its single phase?

  • @danielking2944

    @danielking2944

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes it’s single phase. There is a tendency to call split phase (that is, 240/120 v ) 2 phase . Even when a leg is removed from 3 phase ,the resulting voltage between the 2 remaining legs is single. If you have a neutral also ,you might call it 2 phase but it will be 208/120.

    Sorry you should take this down before OSHA sees it. I hate to say it because the install is pretty clean but there was no fall protection, ladder tie off. Even better...start doing safer installs these guys got lucky, and probably have been lucky for a while but that runs out when you least expect it.

    I would absolutely love solar out here where I live but the cost is is just WAY too high to make sense. Our ranch style house is ALL electric, including some 1500w baseboard heaters along with some ETS heaters, AC unit, Pool, tons of electronics and our budget plan payment per month is less than $240. Maybe if I could get a complete system, with batteries AND installation for around 10K it would be worth it but right now prices are going up and a 30 year ROI is just nuts. I couldn't DIY for a big setup like the whole house because I am disabled with a bad spine/neck/back so that takes the price up considerably. Nice video. I would have loved to hear your comments about the whole process but the video was cool!

    you are in the exact boat i was in, but I did it myself... with permitting and engineers and all, including paying an electrician. I trusted myself to penetrate the roof for anchor over anyone!. That was my nightmare and all is good, Awesome actually. I don't know your kw costs are but anything under 13 cents makes sense if you have the footprint for panels
