Because these days skill doesn't come down to speed but rather fast reflexes and slow calculated plays, interestingly FPSZ games have all of that but more, they just aren't as punishing to play.

Also a LOT because HiRez was a bunch of selfcentered fuckheads... For a while Tribes Ascend had a big and very healthy playerbase but most was asking and begging for pretty much the same changes, and HiRez just ignored it. Than, with the playerbase fading and people still begging for the same things, they decided to take their forum offline, the only real gathering place for the game at that time.. Fuck HiRez and their stupid bullshit, I hate them for doing this. They were all hype and shit about "bringing tribes back" and were even planning an MMO...All disregarded as their cashcow Smite grew. Hate them, hate hate hate them. Tribes Ascend was a good game, I miss it a tonne but the company.....vomit...

Tribes 3: Rivals just announced too, which right now looks like Tribes: Ascend remastered. My expectation for it is a bit low given that it's an ex Hi-Rez dev making it, but we'll see.

this is my fav fps ever i think. I played fps since quake 2. it was just such a great game. Took a lot of skill and had a huge skill gap. Today people playing warzone and think its fast, or that it takes skill to aim, lol. I guess thats why games like this are not popular anymore. oh and sniping the flag across the map in this game was probably some of the best feeling in an fps i've ever had. good times.

i've probably commented on this video before, but i just want to say thank you for the upload. I find myself coming back to this video every so often, its just such a great thing to watch. It's sad to think of the dead state of the game right now but this just highlights all the great moments that were possible.

The concept of Tribes as a skill-based competitive FPS eSport is a *GOLD MINE* for *any* proper developer to pick up. *Two Steps Needed* 1.Simplify loadouts (for casual viewers) into: Capper Chaser Defence Offence 2. Remove Hitscan weapons. Everything HAS to be skill shots. Step 3: rake in money as viewership of the world's most fun esport skyrockets.

Simplifying the game and nerfing sniper rifles were the reasons the game died.

I was fortunate to play this back on my old PC that honestly couldn't run the modern games at the time. Sadly I only joined the game after the Speed cap but still had a lot of fun during it's slow and painful death. No game comes close to the thrill of pure speed as this game. RIP tribes, I sure hope something comes along that recaptures what you brought to the table

No recent fps game has come close to Tribes: Ascend for me, I truly do hope some developer can bring back the amazing feeling of snatching the flag, flying 500 meters into the air and skiing across a battlefield just as Tribes did.

Man i miss this game. Forgot how good it was and was just talking about it with a mate we grew up playing together. Shazbot!

Still watching in 2022 - Might be the best ever Tribes gameplay montage ever made! :)

This has probably been my favourite FPS along with Q3. Too bad most people gave up after a day because it was so difficult.
