So glad I found this video. Guy at Autozone (of course) said they didn’t have info for a dodge Ram 1500 bulb so it’s likely the whole tail light needed to be replaced. KZread to the rescue. You’re a life saver!

Those overly qualified people at Autozone are something special, LOL. Glad you found this vid and it helped you out! If I would have helped you, I would have suggested you needing to buy a whole new truck, but that is just me and my MIT mechanical expertise though!

Next time ask for the previous model year. Only do this if it's still the same generation for your make & model. Parts like these don't usually change on a year to year basis.

With respect to the 2-part plastic clips. The center (inner) piece is just a straight rod of plastic; upon gently loosening, you should be able to draw it straight out with your fingertips and gentle pressure from a flat edge of a screw driver. The outer plug comes out easier with the same technique. Awesome tutorial and thank you for making it!

Glad I saw this video before pulling the bulb out. I was getting ready to change the bulb on my sons 2020 Ram 1500 so I watched your video before I drove the half hour over there. Sure enough, the owners manual and every auto parts website lists the wrong bulb so I picked up a 7443 on the way. It's the original bulb on his and when I pulled it out it WAS a 7443, stamped right on the bulb but you could barely see it. Just a tip for anyone having trouble with that plastic clip, I used an identical tool to yours and the center pin still broke. I just screwed one of the tail light screws into the center and pulled it right out. Not sure why they added it to the newer models because it doesn't need them.

Dude you just saved my life I got 2021 ram bighorn but I guess I have to take the bulb for them to match , I thought i had to take it to the dealer for them to put a whole new 3 lights or something lol

Personally, I wouldn't say it was "detailed". He called a torx head a star, and didn't even say the size of the bit in general.

you say the bulb is 7443, advanced auto says its 7440. i could only assume both will work but which is better? meanwhile the one i pulled out of my tail light says "stanley 7443 12v".

7440 is a single filament and is not the running/brake bulb. 7443 is the correct bulb. Sylvania is wrong and adv auto is as well. I speak from experience. I called Sylvania to have them change this but guess they haven't. It's 7443.

7443 is definitely it. Canadian tire gave me 7440 to. Wrong one

I broke the retainer clips and can't find replacement clips. Any ideas?

Because u bought the wrong bulb. The auto parts places have the wrong bulb number and it will not fit. You need a 7443 bulb, not a 7440.

Do you have a tester light to see if the harness is getting power or not? I would start there first.

If a bulb is a bulb why is it always the driver side one that goes out? I only checked mine because I saw 3 or 4 driver's pass me with their's out. Checked mine and yup its out. Doh!

​The bulb that was burnt out was super easy to change. I thought heck two bulbs mise well change the other side. The stupid plastic clip broke on that side. Decided that's future Jason's problem lol thank you!

That is a great question. I always have issues with bulbs, or something related to the bulbs with Dodge/Ram trucks.
