    I had no idea these photo shoots were so technical and complicated. It's certainly not just point and shoot. So many external things to manipulate and so many tools to tune before you get to pull the trigger. I'm 5 videos in and I've developed quite lot of respect for the fashion photography game, both the models and the pros shooting them

    Just wanted to say that these demos are so helpful. I use 1, 2 and 3 light set ups, but can see the tethering really helps quickly judge the lighting... I'm gonna invest! The one thing I have found, is when shooting the waist of a model, or in my case mum to be... the strap of knicker pull the skin in at the side. I generally ask that they use low tack tape front/back and cut off the sides, so their modesty is covered, but far far less time trying to retouch natural creases. Hope that is helpful. 'Boob tape' as we call it (used to stop dresses gaping), works well on tummy/bum to aid this. Anyway, thought I'd share that! Stay safe!

  • @rupe53

    @rupe53

    3 жыл бұрын

    Clive ... not an expert by any means, but I prefer to skip the tape and work with someone who might be less modest. The constant flinching to maintain the minor bit of extra coverage just takes away from natural movement. Get the gal to "let it happen" and worry about details in editing and sorting later.

    Working in various shades of white reminds me of the days when I did B&W film and so much was about the minor variations in the shadows.... or lack of shadows in certain places. The composition of a picture is not just the subject near the center of the shot.

    I really liked this one, a fashion shoot without fashion... just brilliant. You have a much more creative mind than I do, you created those compositions in your minds eye before putting them together in front of you, I'm not sure I have that level of creativity. Maybe that's why I find landscape photography more to my capabilities. I have a lot less to think about.

    Nice demo of single light, simple “clothing”, and a knowledgeable model. Great job by everyone. At first, I did find it a bit hard to see exactly where the light was pointing. Hi Beca and Peter. another great shoot, thank you all three, beautiful. I like the subtle approaches to what you place in the background, the wall and floor backdrops for example, you shoot a lot of mono which is beautiful especially with your use of lighting, stunning. Do you ever attempt to create atmosphere with smoke for example or gobo’s and even gels when shooting colour or is that kind of thing a bit gimmicky for your taste? I guess it’s knowing what not to do as much as what to try with these things, just wondering how personally you draw the line with these kind of things in your photography Peter? Thanks, Andrew

    Thank you for this very enlightening (no pun intended) demonstration, especially in the interaction between photographer and model. I tried to get into photography (as a hobby) when I was young. When my fiancée and I compared notes, she realised that my problem was that I tended to accept the subject as given. With some luck, I could take good snapshots, but I didn't consider any of the elements of composition or presentation, such as withholding some aspect of the subject to make the viewer look for it.

    I clicked on the video to see what you were going to do with the provocative title. I was pretty sure it wasn’t a swimsuit/bikini shoot or anything like that , but the title suggested something out of the ordinary . I’m starting to think maybe fashion photography is a possible career for later in life now I’m 42? There’s probably a huge history and education to be gained from a lifetime or early experience in the industry which I’m not considering but I’ll probably learn that very soon . I doubt it’s an industry you can just walk in to or everyone would be doing it.

    Peter what is the purpose of the elevated floor? Why did you decide to use the 150mm instead of the 110mm?

  • @PeterCoulsonPhotographer

    @PeterCoulsonPhotographer

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Keith, there's no reason for the floor to be elevated, it's just a movable floor that I built for the studio for when I want floorboards. And oops sorry I was using a 100mm, I've just fixed the description :)

    Do you mean that the speed shutter and the flash power took only the flash light without any ambient light? Or do you have also the ambient light who bounced a little but to help the flash to bring more soft light. Or maybe it's only due to the bouncing flash light due to the speed
