Fascination Yamaha CP2 Review - Yamaha MT-07 and Tracer 7 GT - Why is this engine so good?

It was clearly a brilliant move by Yamaha to bring the "small" CP2 engine onto the market almost 10 years ago - the engine with slightly less than 700 cubic meters is still rightly a bestseller! Yamaha now installs the legendary CP2 engine in almost 10 models - we'll tell you which machine suits you best!

As a proud owner of the Tracer 7 GT in Phantom Blue color, I 100% agree with the presented conclusion. It's friendly, easy, and fun to ride bike. Once, I did 850km in a day with 500km on rural roads and twisties and I felt only the need to stretch my legs from time to time, otherwise, I felt comfortable the whole day. So far I have 11000km on the odometer and had no issues with the bike whatsoever.

Proud owner of a Tracer 7 2023. Love its simplicity and known reliability. Very fun to ride too, which pulls hard from very low RPMs.

Very glad to find such a perfect engine - WITHOUT the horrible electronics-crap!

Was riding the Tracer as a rental bike last year. Big fun. Great engine. Perfect! Best thing: it had done 117.000 kilometers (!) and was running like new! Incredible reliability.

I also have a Tracer 7, and for me the good points are: lightweight, easy to ride, nice looking bike, good traction and direct connection between your right fist and the rear wheel, good brakes. Good bike for fast but relaxed rides. The bad points: Clutch hard to pull, suspension in bad roads (I've tried all suspension adjustments), the seat gets soaked everytime it rains (pretty annoying if you're not with waterproof pants), boring engine if you like to rev it (no scream and low power on high revs), poor quality of some components (rust quickly).

I've had a Tracer 7 since 2021. I got it with Akrapovic exhaust so I think it roars much better than my Fz1 screams. Also my clutch is very soft to pull, so I'm surprised you say it's hard. And I mean the lever is easy to pull. Maybe you meant that the clutch is grabby and has a small zone? Cheers

@@ThisMoth About the clutch, yes, to me mine is hard to pull. My CBF500 had a light clutch, and I've ridden other bikes (Hondas and Ducatis) and never found one with a clutch lever as strong as this. Maybe you're stronger than me 😅 or its a Yamaha thing (never tried another Yamaha) and you're used to them, since you have two... 🙄

@@MacAlex007 Oh interesting! And lol I'm definitely not strong! I am a classic nerdy short and skinny guy. I recently moved to Japan and have been trying a ton of bikes. My only concern almost was to get a clutch lever that was not too hard to draw. And I soon realised that my Tracer 7 at home was the easiest to pull of all bikes I tried. I did not try bikes under 500cc here in Japan so maybe that is relevant. In the end I actually settled on a Fz1 from Yamaha though the clutch was very heavy and I was very worried. But it's been a couple of months and it's now a nonissue as with guitar, my fingers changed strategy and also improved in grabbing strength. PS I almost bought a Honda cbr650 as it had a very light clutch similar to my Tracer 7! :)

@@ThisMoth Now that you talk about the cbr650... I've ridden one recently with a super light clutch... the E-clutch! 😄😄😄

CP2 engine: forged pistons (Moto GP engineering), cylinder head without sleeve (DiASil). Simple but bulletproof engine design and extrem reliability. Fun to drive, nice sound. Perfect Yamaha engineering. I love my 2021 Tracer 7 (with Akrapovic 😂).

This bike has probably damaged honda cb500x sales, unless your a honda or nothing guy. I mean both these bikes are capable of long distance touring but ive heard the Honda needs a bit more thought on overtakes, after all its a 471cc. No such problem with the T7 which is undoubtedly a better looking bike which i suspect you can also have more fun on in the twisties than the 500x. Reliability the 500x is apparently excellent but so is the T7 so cannot use this as a factor to decide one over the other. Between the two, il take the T7 eveytime

Please ditch the yellowish filter on the videos. It sucks. I cant even see the bike in its real color.
