Farming with a 250 HP 4010

My 4010 is a little over powered, but it suits my farm just fine. Today we're disking.

I had added my dad's 4020 on a post that on dino had 270 hp. He had done a lot of modifications to the tractor and is still able to farm with it. There were so many people saying it's not possible. It would rip the transmission or rear end out of it. But hasn't done either. Did burn through a couple clutches. But was his main power tractor since our farm was steep hilly land. Glad to see someone else saying it's possible to get this hp power out of these tractors and still able to farm with them. Some people on the post tried to explain it was very possible, since they also had tractors with close to same hp. But so many critics. My dad was a great diesel mechanic of JD tractors. But no convincing him.

4010 sounds good I have been batteling rust in my skid steer fuel tank its a ASVRC85.After replacing and rebuilding 2 injection pumps very expensive. I put a inline fuel filter between the tank and lift pump and havent had any problems knock on wood. When the filter stops up I replace it and always keep a few extras they are full of rust I had tanks cleaned twice and it still comes back,

I love this stuff,.... year's ago my neighbor Erland Anderson.. had a 574 utility International.. that they reworked the motor in..aftermarket fuel pump and all (he was alway's tryin' to beat this old Co-op tractor.. flat head 6 cylinder.. at the county fair),... he had that 574 pushin' nearly 90 horse.. at the PTO,...2 set's of weight's.. and tire's full of fluid,... he'd have me hook up to a 14 foot Ford disk,... and take it down in the field by the state highway,... he'd say "make sure ya carry the wheel's",... and I would,.... should have seen some of the farmer's going by,... taking a "double take" on that.... it was pretty fun,.... it looked like a Cub Cadet pullin' a normal size disk,.... I'll never forget it,.... well,... they have "sleeper" car's...... they might as well have "sleeper" tractor's too,...... right...... we like it,..... take care........

Next time you have the hood off I'd like to have a peek at a few areas. I put one of these in a early 4020 diesel that tossed a rod. I wasn't able to fit the combine exhaust manifold under the hydraulic valves so I made it a non-turbo setup. Ended up backing off the fuel screw 3/4 turn or so to get rid of the excess smoke. The water pump/fan to radiator clearance was a head scratcher and on this one I had to have the lower radiator connection altered to miss the modified combine crank pulley. No dyno but power feels close to stock. No need for excess power here as the only thing this tractor does is run a Rowse double 9ft sickle mower.

Good looking 4010. I was thinking it was a 4430 engine but it is the same just out of a combine. Yes it definitely woke it up. I had a tricycle front 4020 diesel years ago and I put a wide front end on it and I sold it to a man with a disc like yours and a 4 bottom 1450 plow. It was an older model before the side console but it was turned up a little bit.

Bill -- I am sure you already know this, but they make additives to add to the fuel tank that removes water. Just google "fuel additive to remove water from diesel" to see the different brands. Your 4010 is a neat tractor. Not sure you could utilize all it's power though due to the tractor's weight & build not being heavy enough to get the traction needed to pull large equipment. So it's kind of a "Catch -22" situation.

Did you watch the video? It's powered by a turbo diesel engine that when turned up all the way develops right around 250 HP. I'm sorry if l didn't explain it clearly in the video.

I don’t see how it’s possible to get three times the horsepower out of that tractor without destroying the transmission or the engine. I know you can do it but the farm with it yeah I don’t know.

Hey David, thanks for your comment. The original gas engine spun bearings and l had this engine just sitting so in it went. Why turn it up? 'cause l can, it's fun, we'll take it to the pull, it burns hardly any fuel idling along, and it's cool. That's the use.

Speed isn't everything. Pulling a disk too fast can cause hilling, uneven ground. Use the equipment the way it was designed.

Not quite. l was going to give a smart aleck comeback but l'll just let it go. We did a turbo installation on an 806 lH for a customer, after operating that IH for a short while to test it out, I will say l gained a healthy respect for the farmers who had to suffer running them all day, it was a real physical workout compared to the ease of farming with the much more refined Deere. Just speaking honestly.

@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 yes and 806 I will agree John Deere had a better platform to sit on and all of that stuff but 856 was much better wider platform the clutch pedals and brake pedals were more ergonomic for your feet to operate the shifting with a lot easier and of course I had to 407 engine which even had more power!.

I'll 4020 powershift which was nice especially with the foot throttle cuz e'zs off the foot throttle when you shift it and just like a truck you shift and then the 4440 I also ran with a quad range transmission and they always said they're fully synchronized and they weren't only between 2nd and 3rd gear was synchronized cuz ABC and d were not synchronize But when it comes to stock power 856 will walk all over the 4020 My dad bought his eat 56 brand-new in 1968 and three different Farmers come to try his tractor out before they bought a 4020 and they switch to the 856 and one of them bought a 966
