    As a german I can tell you that these coloured eggs are indeed a regular item in the shelves of the supermarkets here. Although it wasn't until a couple of years ago that you would see them being sold over the whole year. When I was a kid, you would only get these around easter. The colour is just food colouring, which might look weird to someone who never saw an egg like this before, but it does nothing to the taste. I have no clue though, if this is a big market or not (big as in "the company producing them earns a lot of money with it"). His pricing was ludicrous though. You can get a 10-pack at Aldi for 1,89€ (~1,66 GBP). Paying the same price for just 2 eggs is insane.

    It's a bloody egg. You can boil one while you make a cup of tea. Most people have eggs in their homes. Not everyone has BLT or Chicken/Stuffing in their fridge. People definitely would buy this as a snack but it wouldn't take long for it to clock in their customers minds that they could get 3x the amount for half the price if they spend literally 5 mins cooking at home.

    @@Andrew-pd6ey Well, like Nick, said, it's even easier and cheaper to buy and slice an apple, yet people still pay the 5x markup for pre-sliced apples. Hell, you don't even need to slice the apple, just eat it. So there is a market for instant convenience. It takes more effort to boil an egg than to slice an apple, so if pre-sliced apples will sell, so will pre-boiled eggs.

  • @TheWatchernator
    @TheWatchernator4 жыл бұрын

    There's a HUGE market for pre-boiled eggs ready to eat in convenient stores. But not if they're packaged like Easter eggs and look like plastic. Just make them look like eggs, put them in a simple bag, vacuum seal it and you have a big market.

    There’s no such thing as ‘ethical’ eggs, it’s a euphemism. It’s like saying ‘ethical’ concentration camp, ‘ethical’ slavery, ‘ethical’ child labour. Not only that but All eggs and hens in the egg industry all came from the same suppliers, and when the chicks are hatched and sexed the male chicks being economically garbage to them, are killed immediately by being dumped fully conscious into a high speed grinder. So all the male siblings of those ‘ethical’ hens laying ‘ethical’ eggs were still ground up fully alive and conscious.

    To answers Peters's question regarding the German price tag: it's usually ~ 1,50 € per 6-pack. And that's almost the same pricing as for fresh eggs in a 6-pack. So Peter is right for "you cannot sell that for 5-times-the-price of a normal egg. NOTE that we talk about "industrial" eggs here ... not Bio eggs fresh from the farmer.
